Aeropro Drive alternative?

Enjoy playing with the new Aeropro Drive, but my elbow is starting to hurt some. I have it strung with Babolat Addiction at 59lbs. In all other racquets, multis do not hurt my arm. By other racquets I mean the Prestige Pro, Prestige S, and Wilson Blade 98.

Is there a more flexible racquet that plays like the Aeropro Drive?
My preference would be to keep the APD, and I was thinking about trying the Prince Premier Control string, would this help?
Can't afford all natural gut.

Thoughts?

The Aeropro is a stiff racket, have you tried a softer string like Origin, Xcel.... or VS Gut?

PPC isn't going to be more comfortable. It's a control oriented multi, so it's by all means better than co-poly, but not as soft as the softest multis out there. However, I'd significantly drop the tension if I were you. Personally, multi or s-gut work nice towards the 45-50lbs range in a Pure Drive; always found that Babolat's (or Dunlop's) tension recommendations are far too high.

I occassionally have elbow pain and experienced it most when I was demo'ing rackets. I found that it happened across racket brands and types.

I attributed most to bad form/swing mechanics and am still working on it. I currently play with APD using addiction and RPM hybrid strung at 54lbs. Most of my GE pain, I think, is due to bad service form and hyper-extending vs snapping at the serve. [working on that and slowing down my swing to let the racket do the work]

Personally I think blaming the racket for elbow issues is just a band-aid solution as typically it's only a small part of what the problem could be.

If you ask a PRO tennis player whether he/she has ever had tennis or golfer's elbow, for sure you'd find at least 40%, possibly a much higher percentage, who admit they had some form of elbow problem something in their careers.
And, most pros would not tell you the truth, because they are hiding their weaknesses from other competitors.
Blame what you want, it's mostly due to OVERUSE, plain and simple.
My sampleing might be old, but history is still valid. When I worked at the stringing booth at the old TransAm tourney in the CowPalace of SF, Harold Solomon, Eddy Dibbs, Colin Dibley, Stan Smith, Raul Rameriz, Richard Stockton, Brian Gottfried, ALL had elbow problems they were contending with ...and against. And that would be about 70% of the player's who dropped off rackets for us to work on.
Bobby Lutz played with elbow braces all the time, and wrist braces. The whole Aussie contingent had arm and shoulder problems.
There is no getting away from overuse injury, and to maintain a semblance of skill level against your peers, you have to practice as much or more than all of them.
That's life, live with it.

I switched from an APD to a Yonex Xi98 this year and I'm loving life. APD is a great racquet if it doesn't hurt you. But there's no sense in playing in pain if you don't have to.

I've started experiencing severe discomfort (pain to be honest) in my elbow. Do most people suffer from this? I absolutely love the racket though so I don't really want to switch. I currently have it strung up with RPM blast and I've noticed that the strings in the mains and the crosses are beginning to cut into each other, yet strangely the strings haven't snapped yet... Could this be part of the problem that is making my elbow hurt?

Try lowering your tension. 59 lbs is high for that stick, even with a multi

Try the Yonex Ai98.

But in general, your problem may be string tension. I don't know anyone who strings an APD over 50, and I don't really know anyone who strings any racquet over 55 these days.

I do. I don't have enough control even with full poly when under 50.

Seems I've found the perfect string for APD users who want a string that last longer like a poly, but plays soft like a multi - Head FXP Tour. Currently, I have it strung at 58lbs. This string is really nice. Performs well too. Elbow doesn't hurt from this string. Loving this set up so far.

Do you still use the APD with that string? Does it do any damage to the arm/wrist?

Have you found the satisfying alternative for the APD? Thanks.

The Volkl Super G 8. Is similar to a Pure Drive. The DR-100 is similar to a softer APD. The 98 is a much more controlled stick. It does not have the pop of the DR-100. The Angell TC-100 is somewhat similar. It's more stable than the APD and my example has more weight at the tip. It's sort of a marriage between a modern stick like the APD and an old-school box-bean style racquet. The flex is very different in the TC-100. There is a flex in the throat that is very different than anything I've ever used. None of these have the raw power of the APD or Pure Aero. Synthetic gut works really well in an APD, IMHO. The new pure aero may be worth a demo. It has a slightly more open string patter which makes it more comfortable.

From what I've read the Prince Textreme Warrior 100 would fit the bill as a softer APD alternative. All the power and spin you need without the stiff feeling and arm pain. Plus plenty of touch and control.

Is this still your setup? What did you finally settle on?
