AeroPro Drive GT 5/8- right grip size for me?

Hi guys i'm new to the forums, I've been playing tennis for about 3 years or so and wanted to start getting more serious about it. So I used to play with a Babolat APDC and naturally changed it to an APDGT. I wasnt sure if I should have kept a large grip size or went down a size or two. I personally like bigger grips because with smaller grips the racquet has a tendency to slip after I hit a shot or while I hit one. I'm 5'8" tall and my tennis hand measures 7 3/4" to the tip of my middle finger, and my ring finger is 3 3/8" long, with my middle finger being 3 1/2" long. My rpevious grip size was 4 5/8 and I kept it this way on the GT. However people are telling me its too big and will ruin my game. I even did the test with putting my hand around the racquet and sliding my left index finger in between my palm and ring finger and it fits perfectly. So, I dont know is 4 5/8 grip the rght size for me? I personally like it, but is there a downfall to larger racquet grips? please help

I'm 5'8" as well and also use 4 5/8 grip as is the correct grip size for me according to the "finger" test. There's no downfall to using the right grip size. Volleys and ground strokes will be more solid. It's kinda the rage to use small grips because everyone gets all giddy over everything Nadal and Federer does and uses. I tried a racquet with a 4 1/2 and could feel the racquet turning in my hand, resulting in mis-hits, and volleys into the net. I hit with a 4 3/8 and that was just horrible for me. The counter argument is you get more spin. Yeah well, to each his own but I get great spin when I want it with 4 5/8 and an Eastern forehand grip.

Wow thats crazy! and I agree completely, 4 1/2 slipped for me as well, then my grandfather put a 4 1/4 in my hand and that was a nightmare! I use the VSOriginal overgrips by abbolat theyre thin so its all good. Anyway I agree that I stil get spin with a 4 5/8 but it doesnt sound like their really is a downfall to the bigger grip if its your size

it depends on what your comfortable with, i know in general eastern fh grip players typically prefer a bigger grip size than western. I am 5"7" and play with a 4 0/8 grip size, yes a 4 even which is really small. but its the only size i feel comfortable with.

It depends, from my experience Babolat grips run a bit bigger then their actual sizing. On my pure drive, the 4 1/2 feels closer to a 4 5/8 plus an overgrip. If it feels comfortable then go for it! :)

Yes but that's going to be a 4 5/8 with a Babolat VS Original overgrip, which the finger test still stays pretty perfect at. so in matters of comfortability I prefer bigger grips, kinda like Tsonga lol

Don't worry, fellows

5/8 is perfectly fine for us 5'8". In fact I play with several different grip size and prefer the larger size. With smaller size, 1/4 and so on, you'd need a fresh overgrip or grip very often because the little contact between your palm and handle needs as much tackiness as possible.

As long as it feels right in your hand it doesnt matter what your friends tell you. If you're getting the ball to go where you want it to go and it doesn't feel too bulky and slow on the swings and everything is happening for you then you got the right size.

sounds good to me. Speaking of the APDGT, what is the big dif between it and the (+) version? I mean wats better about the regular frame then the + and vice versa?

APDGT:
Length: 27 inches / 69 cm

APDGT+: Length: 27.5 inches / 69.85 cm

The difference is in length, mostly. Also, I believe the swingweight, actual weight and balance vary a bit.

The difference between a standard length racket and extended length can be quite large depending on the person. That in itself is a whole other topic to start with. If you look it up, you can see tons of pros and cons for each length! :)
