After Federer's heartbreaking loss to Nadal in the 2008 Wimbledon final, would you have predicted the performances by Nadal and Federer at Wimbledon?

Nadal - DNP, W, F, 2nd Round, 1st Round, 4th Round, 2nd Round
Federer - W, QF, QF, W, 2nd Round, F, F/W

I certainly expected far more from Nadal and far less from Federer.

And in the same time period, at Roland Garros:
Nadal: 4R W W W W W QF
Federer: W QF F SF QF 4R QF

Do you ever weary of this silly game you play?

I would have expected Federer to still do better than Nadal on grass, yes. He lost ONE match 9-7 in the fifth set against a player who has a matchup advantage against him. Hardly a sign that he was Finnish.

Now, after the 2010 tournament, I would not have expected what followed from them.

I fail to see the relevance of your post in relation to the OP's.. Looks like OP touched a raw nerve - honestly, the only thing that looks silly is your retort.

That's 18-5 to Nadal, 35-5 to Federer (assuming defeat tomorrow) or 36-4
So twice the wins at Wimby for Fed

And in the same time period, at Roland Garros:
Nadal: 4R W W W W W QF
Federer: W QF F SF QF 4R QF
42-2 for Nadal, 33-6 for Fed
Nadal 25% more wins

Both results are sound and consistent with their general level on these surfaces.

Did you conveniently skip over Rafa's winning the whole thing in 2010?

OP has Rafa winning Wimbledon in 2010. Just re-read his post.

But, to OP's question: in the end, the 2008 Wimbledon final could have gone either way. Rafa came on top in the end, though. I didn't see that day a Roger who is fully incapable of producing some more great tennis and I didn't feel that Rafa will dominate the All England Club.

However, I started to have real doubts about Fed' ability to win slams after losing at Wimb 2010. That was different, especially following a QF loss at the FO. The loss to Djokovic at the USO just confirmed my fears. Since 2010, I didn't expect Fed to repeat what he did during his prime years, but I thought he can still snatch a slam or two if things align perfectly for him.

On thing though, I wasn't expecting to see this Federer after 2013. I mean, losing to Stakhovsky and Robredo?!! He managed to bounce back nicely, but he still needs to back that with a GS trophy!
