After Split Stepping....

Hey guys,

I have a question, I have been hitting a lot lately and I noticed one thing about myself. After I come out of my split step and the ball is coming to my backhand (I hit a 1 handed backhand w. eastern grip), I realize that I constantly hit the ball late. after trying many different ways I have not been able to time the ball correctly. I am wondering what you guys do to get into position to hit a backhand after coming out of the split step?

Thanks,

as you come off the split step you turn your shoulders (unit turn) as you turn you shoulders you change to a backhand grip you start your take back so that you are ready to start your foward swing BEFORE the ball bounces. hope this is helpful

you could also try to take the racquet back with the head down eliminating the loop. the old draw the sword out of the shaeth type of back hand .this will NOT be your ultimate backhand but by having less to do before the hit it might help your timing. let me know if either idea was helpful
