Again, sorry guys..TV Tennis has become boring!

Very one dimensional, no variety or serve and volley, even in the baseline rallies the ball often lands short, compared to the best baseline players in the past. Now there is power, and misses... not much fun IMO. Before TV tennis made me want to hit the courts and inspire me, not so much anymore(except Federer and a few others of course). Even the players look kind of bored.... I just had to let it out... I still love the game! Just not the pros, tennis needs a change. (raise the net?)

I agree and disagree with you at the same time. The long points now are from the baseline and it makes it boring since no player is actually moving forward. On the other hand, players create wide angles and down the line shots and the opponents are so fast that they get to them and the rally continues. This is what makes it interesting.

Federer mixed up his style in his first round match. He did chip n' charge a couple of times and went to the net many times as well. It was nice to see him return backhand slice come to the net and then put it away for a winner. Hopefully we will see more of that from him.

The word "attack" is to often used synonamously with coming to net. Is Carlos Moya not attacking when he works his opponent side to side with the forehand like a yo-yo.

I agree that tennis is not as varied as it once was. Compared to old days everyone is an all-courter now. But that doesn't make it boring, at least not to me.

When you watch tennis on tv it looks boring because every shot looks the same. The reason for this is the high camera angle. Bring the camera down to the same level of the players, and you'll see a whole other side of the game. You'll see the spins, the power, the variety, the pure skill that you'll never have, and you'll be amazed. You'll see the footwork and speed and be forced to pick your jaw off the floor.

Unfortunately, this angle is rarely used and the game has this ugly stigma. I'm bored to tears by it as well.

Good post. People forget that the main reason why Wimbledon slowed its courts and used heavier balls was because of complaints that too many matches consisted exclusively of serving contests. It's very, very difficult to achieve and maintain a perfect balance, especially as racquet technology is always changing.

It's boring only on TV...live and at court level it's amazing. I've emailed ESPN and TTC numerous times about bringing the camera angles down to showcase the athletic ability and pace of ball that is exclusive to professional players

Did anyone see BLAKE!!

If anyone saw Blakes match they would be excited about tennis all over again... Biggest forehands ive ever seen... safin and bagdhatis will be good to...just dont watch womens tennis cuz youll end up on suicide watch!!

good point, every time the camera goes down to the players level the gameplay appears much for intense and fast paced. You get a sense of the ball speed and the athleticism of the player.

There has to be some remede for this that wont obstruct the view of the spectators.

They should just leave the court camera as the main camera.

The high camera is so horrible, all the balls look flat.

I like the court level camera from behind the baseline. It allows people to clearly see the difference between 3.0's at the public court and the pro game. It brings the game alive. However nothing beats being 15 feet away from the action. The sound of a 120 mph ball is something you can't get on tv yet.

Some of the commentators really make me mad they tend to throw in yards about what THEY did in the old days and when. Could do without all this verbal diarrhoea and wish they would concentrate on what the players are doing on court. The odd funny comment is fine but when they go on and on its too much

heck yea!!
that was awesome ball pounding
i had to go to sleep and wake up at 6:30am but i couldn't help but stay up till 2am watching it
blake seems to really wanna pound the ball others not so much

I mean what would you prefer Serve. Return. Volley. End of Point. How exciting is that?

I was watching the Jankovic match and they did baseline shots but there are different variations on that theme - they moved in sometimes, there was some lobbing, backhand, smashes - all the shots were there and the rallying was used to set each player up. That is far more strategic then Serve. Return. Volley. End Of Point.

The long rallys give players chance to be strategic and try way more options.

Man, it's just scary sometimes when they show a point from the lower cameras in real time. Much easier to see how hard they're digging out there.

Doubles highlights?... Not looking for too much, but I know they're playing a few matches in Melbourne. A couple of interns could probably have a blast pasting those together for extra credit!

I think this is pretty accurate assesment on today's game that I can agree on regarding baseline game.
I'd also add big diffeence in todays game is much simpler match ups on baseline only. We have lost the match-ups variety.

There's the dilema of Federer, IMHO. In fact, lots of top 10 players are mixing up more because they just can't beat Federer from the baseline(or Nadal on clay).

Federer just doesn't have high motivation to mix it up unless he plays Nadal on clay...
Even when he plays Nadal on clay, we can clearly see his undecisiveness to mixing it up..

I'd like to see some more net play in modern tennis. I like watching Federer play because he is more comfortable with approaching than most of the other players.

yeah i do somewhat agree with you, its really become almost predictable. now its all big serves and then gorundstrokes, but then once in a while you get that outstanding match thats worth watching all the boring stuff, like the Wimbledon Final 2007.

So who do you contact or email to request a camera angle change on matches. I would definately do it. It is much more fun and realistic to watch when the camera is court level.

I hate the low camera angle, especially at the US Open when they suddenly switch to behind the returning player on a serve.

You also have to keep in mind that tennis racquets are getting more and more powerful with each update, which makes it suicide to approach in the wrong times. Tennis isn't really getting boring, it's just giving itself a change of style, much like how new kinds clubs to for golf.
