agassi back to the flexpoint. looks like he tanked the match to me. maybe a rest before the french.
Yeah, right, he will be well rested after the French. He is obviously not comfortable on clay anymore. He needs to play a little bit more on clay to get used to it. He only played 3 or 4 matches on clay this year.

I watched the match. I wouldn't call it a tank job, but his heart certainly wasn't in it. Agassi has played very few clay events prior to the French, historically. I think he knew that his semifinal result at Rome was more than enough preparation for Roland Garros. He's rarely played Hamburg & perhaps didn't want a fine or the hasle of getting a doctor to accept his injury excuse, etc. so he showed up.

He only played Houston & Rome prior to the French in '02 & '03 & lost close QF's those years to Ferrero & Coria. I think his preparation this year is enough for another QF result.

Susan, I just got the tennis channel, it's great. I noticed that they went out of their way to show Rusedski yesterday, do you expect them to show Henman-Rusedski instead of Kuerten-Robredo tomorrow(they're playing at the same time)?

I know I shouldn't complain, but it's unfortunate that "nationality" bias towards showing matches isn't limited to ESPN.

Boy are you ever right AA has only had one decent year at Roland Garros. :p
Except when you look at Agassi's record at Roland Garros (the good years):
1988: semis
1990: finals
1991: finals
1992: semis
1995: quarters
1999: champion
2001: quarters
2002: quarters
2003: quarters

Oh, wow, that's a good record. I didn't realize that he was like that on clay - I knew he had two final appearances early in his career, and then won in 1999, but I didn't know that he also had a bunch of other decent showings.

nice research, kudos to you for looking it up. i trust ya.

but i still think hes not really his best on clay. there's gotta be some stat on that. if he has any hope of winning another slam, its definitely not the FO (and I'm a fan. I'm just keeping it real.)

yeah he got far in the FO back in the day but look who he's up against now.

agreed

First I think the French has got to be the toughest to win. And AA does ok (once he makes it past the 1st 2 rounds), but once he runs into a Coria, Ferraro (in form), Federrer (who just owns AA) I don't think he can beat these dirt ballers in their element. Really AA if he's gonna win it will be at the Open or maybe one last showing at the Aussie. But it would be nice to see him put in one last good run at RG and really this is a tourney where anything can happen.

Up to 2003, Agassi's surfaces records, according to Bud Collins Total Tennis:

Clay - 137 - 49
Grass - 42 - 14
Hard - 478 - 125
Carpet - 81 - 44
So, % wise clay is his 3rd best surface.
