Age only matters when he plays Alcaraz

Why does age only matter when he plays Alcaraz and to some extent Sinner? Against the rest of the 90s gen it didn't matter and he was peaking according to his fans.
Was this just an agenda by fanboys to discredit Fed and show that 90s gen would have been slam winners it's just that old Djokovic was as good as 20s Djokovic because he isnt like Fedal in that he ages like fine wine. The same 90s gen losers are being dominated by Sinner and Alcaraz too so what does this prove?

Requires the choke of the century to beat a 38-year old Federer.

Wins 10+ Slams against guys like Berrettini or Kyrgios because he didn't have to face a younger ATG until he was almost 37.

No freaking wonder why he's so butthurt that the public still sees Federer and Nadal as superior. Paper GOAT that's what he is and everybody knows this LOL. Back in the day this would've been an average draw for a 500 and these were his Slam winning draws LMAO. Forever behind Fedal.

How many more of these threads are we going to see.

Djokovic lost fair and square, no excuse. He stepped onto court because he felt he could compete and potentially win. He lost, and credit to Raz for it.

What are you guys looking for with all these bait threads exactly? Looking to pick a fight? Novak himself gave no excuse, he played, he lost.

You don't give excuses when you're secure about your place in history. He lost and that's all that matters. The torch has been passed. As for Novak's place in history the numbers talk loud and clear. Best player of his era and it isn't really up for debate. The rest is just conjecture.

That the rest of the field is not that great. But that isn't any different than the last 10 years.

Djokovic dominated Federer, beating him 6-0 in last 6 slams matches; and dominated Nadal, beating him 5-1 in last 6 non-RG slams. That Djokovic lost to Alcaraz had nothing to do with him dominating both since '11.

And Djokovic won 3 matches in which Federer had double match points and lost.

Djokovic rarely dominated Nadal, and you know it. The times when he did were 2011 and 2015-2016, the latter being the worst version of Nadal from 2005-2022.

Nadal has more than held his own against Djokovic, and leads him 11-7 in matches in the majors.

Outside of clay Novak owned Rafa especially between 2011 and 2021.

Why is it always outside of clay lmao. It’s never outside of hc or outside of grass. Also, nice to leave out 2010 USO and 2022 RG, as if Novak’s level in those tournaments was worse than his level in 2021, 2022 and 2023 when he won those slams. Between 2010 and 2022 they played each other 14 times at slams, with the h2h being a tie at 7-7. Add to that Rafa was very close at AO 2012 and WIM 2018, whilst Novak was ‘only’ close at RG 2013. Then also add the 2 RG victories of Novak against the worst Rafa at RG in the 19 RGs he has played in 2015, and a clearly hampered one in 2021.

Clearly “owning” smh.

Alcaraz won fair and square yesterday.

Djokovic won fair and square when he won.

All the players age the same way, nobody skipps years or ages twice as fast. It's up to you to manage to peak early or have good longevity.

We understand your frustration and your pain.

He won 14 Slams against Fedal, another 3 against Murray/Wawrinka, and another 4 against Alcaraz/Del Potro/Medvedev but go off though.

Forever behind Fedal? Yea in popularity only. Lol.

Everything is possible when you lie. Check their slam opponents instead of using your imagination. People like to fantasize, but then look at what actually happened and it turns out that none of it was true.

If anyone thinks that Federer or Nadal beat tougher opponents on the way to their titles then that's just the lack of knowledge on their part.

I mean some posters here are wanting to hear some excuses. They want to drag Nolefam in the same mud that they are in. lol.

Sorry, but declined this offer peacefully.

Age is just a lame excuse. If you show up to play it means you are ready to compete, if you lose don’t use age as an excuse. Sometimes age works in your favor where you use experience. This is a young man’s game, the fact that the Big 3 played this long is a testament to their relentless pursuit of beating each other. Dont think Novak said anything about age any where in his conversations, took his L (as tough as it was to see for his genuine fans) like a man. Not sure if this is the official change of guard with faster quicker and younger players beating him more regularly, in which case he needs to reasses his next steps. But once you step on court you need to put up or shut up.

Great attitude. Haters are rejoicing no need to get to their level. Novak was pretty classy in how he took the L. I expected the L but the lack of fight is bit upsetting to me as a fan, in any case, we move on. I am hopeful he has one more slam in him and for his own peace that he medals for his country at the Olympics.

There were only 3 players that mattered (and therefore 2 tough opponents) for 20 years. You can certainly throw Murray into the mix for some of these years, though his record against the Big 3 in Slams isn't that great (but he certainly was a real factor). Wawrinka was just a "fluke" player. Everyone else was just a draw filler.

Currently, the only players that can realistically win a Slam are Alcaraz, Djokovic and Sinner. You can put Medvedev into the mix I suppose, but he's a pretty distant 4th. Everyone else is just a draw filler.

I think the more interesting question is, Fed fans had been crying about him being old as early as 2008, when he was 10 years younger than Djokovic is now

When Fed started aging, many of his fans claimed whatever he did from that point on could only add to his legacy, and never detract from it. Yet, when a 37 year old Djokovic loses to a guy young enough to be his son and he sucks? Lol

Yep. Alcaraz had the age advantage yesterday and at some point, he will have an age disadvantage against a younger player.

Djokovic had the age advantage vs Federer but Federer had it vs Agassi, etc.

Everyone will face someone younger and someone older at some point.

Djoker got lucky though with it not taking place until way later.

The age difference between Djokovic and Alcaraz is greater than the one between Federer and Edberg

Edberg had been retired for three years when Federer made his Wimbledon debut; retired for five when Fed beat Sampras

It's a small miracle that Djokovic even made this final, at age 37 and weeks after a knee surgery

I agree it's a bit unfair to dismiss age as a factor for Djokovic but use it as a crutch for Fed. Having said that, I want to point out a few things that are different about the situations. I just don't feel age was an issue yesterday. Alcaraz, by most metrics, has a better grass court game than Djokovic and it was on full display. He's a much better volleyer, which clearly translated to a lot of important points in the match, and is in general, a much more aggressive player, which traditionally gives you an advantage on grass. CA isn't giving up much as a returner either and he has the power to push anyone, including Djokovic, regardless of age. Remember, in Fed's youth, when he was able to run around his backhand, he essentially beat Djokovic by hitting through him.
For Fed, as he aged, it was much more difficult for him to run around his backhand and hit a big forehand. Especially against Djokovic, Fed's one hander could be ground down by the 5th set. Regardless, it's amazing for Djokovic to be playing at this level at 37, no matter how weak we think the rest of the field is. What's he's done mentally and physically to maintain his level is simply beyond comparison. He's improved so much he essentially has no weakness in his game. We can talk about his volleys yesterday but fact is, no one recently has said his volleys were bad until CA came along. His volleys looked worse because of CA's speed and shot making put added pressure on Novak to hit perfect volleys. Add to that he's playing probably the best volleyer we've seen in the last 20 years and Djokovic looked "bad" on volleys. He's no natural at the net, but he's not a bad volleyer anymore.

I know it hurts you guys seeing Novak take every single record from your beloved players. Don’t worry, they still have the popularity support, I know that matters to you since the records are all gone now

Hypothetically all of Djokers records are gone too. Carlos the Shepherd has them.

Well when he's 78 or 80 he can become President of the USA as laws will be enacted that let anyone run

Is the popularity support going to hold up if they are not playing on tour? I know only the records will stand the test of time.

Djokovic needed super close matches to beat Federer despite being 6 years younger and having a clear age advantage. It means nothing other than being lucky to be youngest of the 3, because if you reversed their ages, Fed aged 25 f.e. would decimate Djokovic aged 31.

And now what's happening with Djokovic and Alcaraz is what should've happened YEARS AGO, Djokovic didn't have any younger ATG to beat until 2023 when Alcaraz and now there's just no way he's going to reverse the trend. Alcaraz is going to beat him probably 9 out of 10 times going forward. That's why there's so much talk about Djokovic racking up his numbers, because he had a platoon of tier 2 and 3 players for years to win his Slams. It's a joke that even in 2019 his biggest rival on grass was a 38-year old Fed that he STILL required the ultimate choke to beat. Imagine early 30s Fed against a 38-year old Djokovic at WImbledon, it would be even uglier than what Alcaraz did to Djokovic this year.

I know it hurts you guys seeing Novak take every single record from your beloved players. Don’t worry, they still have the popularity support, I know that matters to you since the records are all gone now
Yes, the same way nobody mentions Emerson now and Laver is still brought up in every discussion. Djokovic only has dry numbers and nothing else. He never moved the crowds, he never drew people into tennis, Federer and Nadal did. He can take all the trophies and go celebrate his career inflation Slams together with his 17 fans, because even now while having all the records he still can't let loose from Fedal. And for a reason.

Yea and it must be so frustrating supporting Djokovic beat every single record and STILL not get half the recognition that Federer and Nadal have. People would be more interested in a 50-year old Fed exho than Djokovic playing another tier 4 player in a Slam final. The only difference is that FINALLY he now has a proper roadblack (a younger ATG) that should've happened years ago instead of in 2023/2024 after he racked up double digit Slams in a career inflation era.

There is nothing that Djokovic can or will do that will make people like him. And tennis isn't some sort of kingdom, it really is a popularity contest at the end of the day, because when it comes down to it it's 2 dudes hitting a yellow ball with tennis racquets, like how does it matter in the big picture. Djokovic could win another 20 Slams and people will still prefer Federer and Nadal, damn that must hurt a lot.

All 3 had easier Slams. The issue is that Djokovic didn't have a younger ATG until Alcaraz came along. Look at all the h2hs between 2 ATGs, in 99% of the cases the younger ATG comes out on top, so wow, good job Djoko that you finally wore down a 40-year old Fed.

And now Alcaraz will make you suffer until you finally decide to retire.

And enhanced his legacy. Many athletes when knowing they are not quite there (see it all the time in 100m) will duck out of a big meeting with a rival in a big event. Novak i am sure knew there was a risk he might get blown away if Alcaraz brought his A game, yet he manned up like a champion and gave it a crack. No downside really. It happened, he lost, its past history now, Olympics are up next. That is his mentality and why he has 24 slams. No dwelling on things. Losers dwell on the past. Winners look forward.

Lol. Federer and Nadal fans turned it into a popularity contest the day Novak took over the records. It’s alright, you can have the fan popularity and sportsmanship awards.

Gil Gross has an excellent analysis of the match on his youtube channel. Djokovic is good enough to beat any player despite his recent knee surgery except the top 2(Alcarz and Sinner).

How can one even begin to call age gap the agenda of today when this place has been endlessly b1tching about a gap that is 2.5 times smaller than the one between Carlos and Novak is truly astonishing lol.
