Whew, thought he retired or something.

Great links, anyone have something from the 2005 AO vs nadal (5 setter)? Was one of the better matches of the decade from what i remember.

True story, but he did definitely show a few times this year what he's made of. he pushed Roddick to 5 sets at Wimbledon in the quarters, and has given a few nasty fights to some of the top 10-20 guys in the world over the past year.

I hope to see him at his best next year, he's definitely a fun guy to watch.

Wow. I didn't know about that epic AO match against Nalby. Some ridiculous stuff from both players!

Hewitt was better than Rafa domination- wise. He was dominant over all but Roddick and Safin in his 2 years at #1. He has 2nd most #1s of decade (Federer) and 3rd most slams (Federer, Nadal) I think he refuses to retire until he is unseeded (without injuries) and feels he has no chances at the AO, which I bet is his goal. He's already got Wimbledon and USO, and even if he wasnt Austrillian, he's not exactly brilliant on clay...

I just realized.... my other fave player, Gonzo, is actually older than Hewitt....his level of play has just really always been #5-#15 level... but Lleyton should get back into the Top 20 at least...

I hope Rusty makes it back into the Top 15 and goes deep in a slam.

If he won the Aussie Open, that'd be epic.

Come on!

Really hoping for Hewitt to do well in his home slam, maybe winning there is a bit too much to ask for, but it is possible for him to go deep and give the top players fits.:)

hewitt has no shot to win a major. No shot to make a final.

He doesn't have the foot speed he used to, and he has no shot weapons.

All you have to do is catch some lucky breaks. Look at Federer this year at the French:
Djokovic loses
Nadal loses
The two guys who consistently make it deep in clay tournaments and beat Federer on clay lose before they reach him. He then gets his whipping boy in the final and wins. It'll be tougher for Hewitt but if he finds his game and some of the others are off he has a shot, not a good one but he can still win one

Well for starters the top 10 would have to fall off the face of the earth. Even then, guys like Cilic, Monfils, Stepanek are all playing better than Hewitt right now. It would be INCREDIBLE if he could pull it off.

Hewitt can beat Del Potro, Roddick, and Soderling, Verdasco is done, Murray and Davydenko won't do anything. It's really only Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic he has to worry about. He has the crowd on his side and it's unlikely Djokovic can put together another miracle slam like 2008. Nadal is fading, but he might be back strong, who knows. Federer is a problem but hopefully he draws Del Potro before Hewitt. I'm not saying I would bet money or anything on it but it can happen, I think he has the best chance of anyone out of the top 10 to do it, we'll see what happens. He might pull an Ivansevic, which would be amazing

Hewitt can only beat Del Potro at Wimbledon, at every other slam he will get crushed. And at Wimbledon, he has no chance whatsoever. There is no way in a million years he can beat either Federer or Nadal there, and he already showed he can't beat Roddick despite Andy playing a subpar match compared to his semi and final and Hewitt playing at his best level for about a year. He only beat Soderling in Cincinnati because he had an elbow injury. Verdasco, Murray, and Davydenko will all go fairly deep unless something really weird happens, so I don't know why you would discount them. I doubt he can ever beat a top 10 player again in a slam they are comfortable at unless he makes a HUGE improvement again.
