Alabama men's tennis

The 13th seed? George, what happened to all those promises of a championship pedigree that you never had? The only other head coaching position he had he was average at best. What made us think he was going to be successful at Bama? Being an assistant on a loaded team doesn't make you a head coach. Just praying the new AD cares about tennis.

Good chance that both the men's and women's teams at Bama go o-fer in SEC play this year. Be interesting to see what the new AD does. This will be two years in a row for the women to be winless in league play.

Mens and Women's end up both going 2-10 in SEC play....Men finished last, Women had a few bright spots with the play of Routliffe, still an under-performing team this year on both sides, as predicted.

I feel you on this. Tennis is my favorite sport and outside of football it's the team I care most about at Clemson. Yet very few Clemson fans care at all and it's pretty clear the administration doesn't care. Both Alabama and Clemson are elite in several sports (Bama, football, softball, gymnastics; Clemson, football, mens and women soccer, baseball, men's golf) and yet they both are just letting tennis slip away by the wayside. Really disappointing to be a fan of a program like that.

Sad to me, there was such a great program there for years. Not a Clemson fan by any means, but enjoyed watching their tennis program. You really think the administration has moved away from it?

It doesn't seem like there is much care about the program. From the fans either. Out of all the sports at Clemson, tennis gets the least amount of likes on the social medias. They've actually stepped up their game recently when it comes to promoting it. Better information sheets to fans, giveaways etc. But how can the team attract more fans when they lose basically every match?

Based on knowing two players there during the Pate era and one there now, comes down to winning 1st, prompting 2nd. Pate's looking pretty good now!

Alabama out in first round of SEC Tourney. Is this Husack's last match with Alabama?

It has to be, I can't take it anymore. The Husack experiment has been a complete failure. I am hoping for a release by tomorrow saying the assistant will take some of the individual players to the NCAA and they will start a national search asap. I have a long list of reasons why he needs to go within the next 24 hours but I think we all know most of the points. Unfortunately, he might stay and then I will be waiting to hear where some of the guy's decide to transfer too. He is making Billy Pate look like Peter Smith.

Excuse my ignorance, but what was wrong with Billy Pate?
Someone probably has the accurate history, but as I recall he only won a couple SEC championships, regularly only finished between 3-5 in conference play and when qualifying for NCAA post season play year-in-and-year-out often only won a round or two at the NCAA tourney.

If Sam can be let go at Tennessee there is no way Husack should be at Bama for another second. Actually, I would hire Sam to take Husacks spot. If you compare the resume's it's not even close.

"My vision for this program is to be a championship contender, not only on the conference stage but also on a national stage," says Husack. "I want to create a culture, a standard. I'm going to be instilling my own thing. I'm used to competing on the last day of the season. I want these guys to experience competing and winning on the last day of the season." - George Husack upon appointed as HC at Alabama in 2012.

If any one was wondering why I do what I do can look at oddessy's post. He nailed it! I would just add all the wins against Jackson State over the years have padded the overall win total and several transfers. It's time

Anyone know why Mazen pulled out of singles and doubles?

Unconfirmed word from T-town is that Mazen has checked out. Would not be surprising given recent history of players leaving program. Anyone notice how well Kerznerman did at UCF this season now that he has good coaching? I understand that Husack is on Greg Byrne's radar. Hopefully Byrne will take action soon. Byrne addressed baseball first since it is a revenue sport. He already has a short list of tennis candidates.

That would be a huge loss but not unexpected. We have lost so many good players over the years due to not liking Husack I am sure there are more guys probably wanting to transfer too. Hopefully changes are coming sooner than later. It's unbearable

Pate sucking at Princeton, George sucking worse at bama

Never thought I'd see the day where I wish Pate was back. Everyone knows he "phoned it in" his final season. Even so, his recruits helped Husack get to the NCAAs Husack's first season. Since then - absolutely nothing from the man who said "I'm used to playing on the final day of the season." Nothing, nada, zero, zilch as far as NCAA appearances. Five years. The time for excuses is over. Hopefully Byrne has this in the crosshairs.

Bama women's doubles reach finals. Congratulations to Coach Mainz - and good luck tomorrow.

Bama women at least won the SEC in the last five season. But the men's program is on life support. Clueless head coach. Clearly not the person for the job. He's in way over his head.

What's your source for this info? Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves. Only possible factor for him staying, and I'm just guessing here, is that he could potentially have to join Egyptian military if he goes home. I know that's the situation for other foreign players in collegiate athletics.

Add Spencer Richey’s name to the early exits. Particularly troubling because Richey’s a Bama legacy.

What's the story on Richey? Also add Nikko Madregallejo to that list.

How much eligibility did Nikko Madregallejo have left? I thought he graduated. Richey will show up again.

Talking about Husek's has become a waste of time now. It's more interesting finding out where Bama players will end up.

I am convinced Husack has something compromising on the AD. With a few changes lately with the SEC coaches, Bama by far has the worst head coach. This is becoming a circus every summer on who is going to transfer. I noticed with the new schedule being posted the team is playing several DH's against teams that are inferior. By far the weakest schedule for an SEC team. It's clear he is just trying to get meaningless wins to make the win total look better. If he is not fired after this year, it will be clear the Bama AD has no interest in tennis.

How so convinced on Richey? And also yes, Husack limits growth for some reason so when bama guys transfer they usually start to shine.

I'm just saying he'll play college tennis again. That's all.

Something really fishy is going on there based on his recent results, no NCAAs, removal from online roster and then no transfer announcement or indication.

Bama is back in school and no sight of Mazen Osama. Heard from some guys on the team he is back in Egypt. Husack has about 8 more months in T Town (Hopefully)

Your source is correct. Heard it from a friend who lives in T-town. In fact, if you go to Rolltide.com and go to the men's tennis roster and look at the photos, everyone pictured is in a new shirt - recent photos. Except for Mazen Osama - still the same photo as last year. He's not even on the continent. Same friend is a big tennis guy - says the two incoming freshmen are marginal at best, doubts either one will ever win an SEC match.

Second year in a row Bama's top returning player has failed to return. Lovett in 2016, Osama in 2017. Unprecedented.

Husack is cheering Osama's results that he has had overseas on twitter. So I wonder why he isn't coming back to Alabama?

I have been told by reliable people that Mazan does not want to come back but Husack has been basically begging him to come back. Reading between the lines I think Mazan and another player are hoping to return next year hoping Husack is let go after the season. Both can take redshirt years this year and not lose eligibility. Of course Husack knows if Mazan doesn't come back they could lose every single SEC match so his job is in the hands of Mazan right now. I have been told Husack has basically been begging and praying he comes back. The bottom line is Mazan feels like the many that have transferred the past few seasons, Husack is not liked and not a good head coach. The feeling many have is that Husack just doesn't have the knowledge to make players better and doesn't have the temperment to be a head coach. In reality, it's time for a new direction for Bama tennis.

I was going to reply something similar and say wait to see who joins and or is back on the roster in the spring.

To give a glimpse to show Husack is very nervous about being let go I spoke with someone who attended the alumni get together a week or so ago and Husack had the AD around and seemed to be overt with his fawning all over him. I was told it got a little over the top at one point, it was clear Husack was trying a little too hard.

Friend over in T-town passed this info.

Greg Byrne is keeping Husack for now because he didn't want to burden new coach with administering SEC Men's tourney - which Bama hosts - in spring. Byrne has other priorities, but the sad state of men's tennis is definitely on Byrne's radar. Friend - who is a tennis coach - said he has seen both of Bama's frosh signees in action. Friend said he would wager big bucks that neither of the two frosh signees would ever win a singles match against SEC competition.

I wish Greg would have burdened the new coach. Other news is seems Mazen will be back in January, and it's not because he likes Husack. I am resigned to the fact if Husack is still the coach on July 1 we may never get rid of him. My family has turned our support to Auburn Tennis. At least they know what they are doing and the coach is not a complete jack.
