Alcaraz adding weight

Haha I saw that literally a few minutes ago catching up on Jonas video.

I believe he removed 5 grams.

When he added the weight , the YouTube gurus stated it added stability. But Jonas now says it can be harder on your wrist ?

For personal interest: did any alcaraz-fan/-follower notice any difference in his game (-plan) or shot Selection with added weight vs. Before and after?

I am guessing he removed the weight for faster surfaces, so he can swing faster. On clay you have more time, maybe he will put it back later... Or he is just comfortable with stock version. I did not notice any changes in his game.

Jim Courier commented on Alcaraz racquet today. "...now it's unstrung no overgrip at 307g but he's so talented he adjusted quickly...." Or, something to that effect. It was 1st set 2-0 30-0 Not saying Jim know more than Mr.Nerd but just curious if anyone heard the whole thing?

This is one thing I like about Jim Courier. He mentions things about the player's setups etc which a lot of us tennis geeks like to hear! I didn't catch this but very interested. I wonder where the weight is!

He took the forehand much earlier and swung out much lower compared to his performance in Paris. But he probably would have done this with the added weight as well. Solved almost all problems when he got rushed on hc in the past

Can anyone elaborate if there's any truth to the part with the metal removed drom the handle (better say: Pro Stock just does not have metal in handle) and the added silicone?

I’ve done this, not to replicate Carlitos, but to match multiple PA98s because the stock handle weighting from the factory is all over the place. When you remove the factory foam pallet there are two metal weights totaling about 16 grams embedded in the foam (you can locate them with a magnet before removing the foam pallet). There are also weights baked into the graphite hairpin, but those obviously cannot be removed. I have extra 3D printed pallets that fit the PA98 hairpin if you are interested…

I’m more interested in your process that removes the foam pallet.
Silicone absolutely feels best in place of those metal plates and even foam inside the hairpin.

I wouldn't say it's easy, but it's not impossible either. The hardest parts are the beginning, which requires shaving or chiseling the foam, and the end, which requires removing all the residue from the hairpin so the 3D pallet can be installed. Here are a few pics. As you can see the channel can be filled with weights, dampening material, or both.

Also Google search Nikki Roenn. His company (First word is the opposite of strung and then second is the agency controlling imports into the country) has pallets for Babolat hairpins. Think he did Mannarino’s setup if I recall. Not cheap but cheaper than buying one in a different grip size.

I think one thing a shop said to me was there’s no pallet or 3D pallet that prints to fit the TF hair pin.
I put a set of heads tk82 pallets on my tf40 hairpin that fit pretty well. Slight gap but with the tf handles being fairly rectangular and most people seeming to like tk82s shape, it worked out pretty well

Exactly. Maybe not the right time to make such change just before a Grand Slam without having the chance to test it out before on any less important tournament. Also add the modification of service motion. To me, it was too many changes at once.
Current thoughts?

Yes the change is meant to be long term and I think will pay off later. Like I said earlier in the thread I think he could benefit from a bit more HL set-up but I'm just a weekend warrior. Nadal played around with specs throughout his career and to maximize his results.
:)
