Alcaraz HOPES to meet Djokovic in the final

When Nadal is facing player ranked 135 he is saying that he needs to focus on the match because this player can be dangerous.

When Alcaraz is facing player ranked 135 he is already choosing final rival for himself.

Lol.
That Nadal mentality is why he has been so good over the years. He doesn't assume that he'd beat the number 135 in the world, but realizes that he has to work hard, compete, win points, get the job done etc. Stay in the present, and make sure that you do the job that you need to do in order to win.

Nadal’s whole “gonna have to try my best, no?” doesn’t come across as sincere to me. But maybe i’m wrong.

It's very sincere. It's Toni's coaching since he was a kid, i.e. never assume anything, stay in the present, fight for every point, treat every opponent with respect. That's why Rafa has the routines, to get himself in the right mindset.

And Fabian is injured too? Now that sheds some new light into this beatdown. Basically, congrats for being back to #1.
Nope, Alcaraz will officially be #1 in the ATP rankings after the Rome Masters, he already has enough points to surpass Djoko:

True, the Nadal approach is the best approach to life. The more we consider ourselves the fav and become cocky, overconfident, flaunt, undermine opponents/rivals/people around us we are creating distractions in our own mind to stop us. I have seen this in my own life as well, flying under the radar most of the time is the good way. Flaunting and trying to be cocky almost always backfires.

He’s 19. I could party all night at 19 and feel fresh as a daisy the next morning. And I ain’t no athlete. lol
I could do that for 3 days and with no sleep, i was a professional, and yeah you gonna talk about doping, yeah everybody doped we were on the same terms, i was just better, no one can deny that

You are wrong. Rafa has always been non-arrogant. That's how his parents raised him. And he learned from his uncle Miguel Angel Nadal, a former pro-footballer, how to stay grounded. (Source: Rafa's autobiography titled "Rafa: My Story, 2011".)

"Being in the same tournament Novak is in is great, having him here and learning from him," said Alcaraz, who begins his Rome campaign on Saturday against Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

"It's always good having the best tennis players in the world in the tournament. I hope to meet him in the final.
Rafa never looks beyond his next match. Lesson for Alcaraz.

It's reality. From 2005 when he was number 2 to Roger every time he was asked about playing Roger in a tournament, he always replied that they were on opposite sides of the draw and he couldn't look beyond his next round. It's not insincerity, because nothing is guaranteed as Alcaraz found out today.

Exactly. They both have to get to the final first. That Alcaraz vs. Djokovic final that was being talked about is completely hypothetical now.

Djokovic is not just a goat. He is the GOAT. What are you talking about ? Did he not beat your feddy time and time and time again.
No Djokovic is not the GOAT, no matter how many times you say it.
I am not a Federer fan FYI.
Yet another immature response from you.
Don’t bother replying, I’m finding your endless playground level posts a bit tedious these days so I’m out.

Alcaraz looked like a complete mug.. got brushed of so efficiently..
of course he won't meet Djokovic.. RG looks like a big ? atm
he was exposed completely and outplayed.
should never happen like that for a legend in the making.
maybe Rome was too much for him..
which is also weird.

Yes, Fabian sent his congrats to Carlos with flying colors

Failing to break the first game of the match turned out to be very costly for Alcaraz. I think if Marozsan had been broken, it would've changed the whole dynamics of the match.

All eyes on Paris now. I hope Zverev takes the title.

That's because Nadal is a walking injury. He knows his next match could result in him hurting himself and ending up on the shelf for the next 9 months.
And still he's the GOAT with a W/L record at Roland Garros of 112-3 and one of the 3 losses was a WO he gave to Granollers in the 3rd round in 2016 when he pulled out with wrist injury.

True but I'm talking about Nadal always making his next match seem like it's his last in the way he hypes his opponent and not taking anyone for granted.

Lol i don't think Nadal believes he is not favourite against unseeded player .

Then who is the GOAT of the Open Era? Unless Rafa wins 2 more slams than Novak, he or Federer cannot be the GOAT. Actually, Roger is already out the race.

Nadal is like "I must do my routines, work hard, compete and do my job, and then I'll give myself every chance to win". He wouldn't function well at all if he took the attitude of "Oh, I'll beat this player ranked 100 in the world. Who will I be playing in the final?".

Nadal's mental approach means that you accept the hard work and competing, that you must be prepared to go at it for hours and hours if needs be. That approach alone breaks down most opponents. Look, for example, at the 2006 French Open match between Nadal and Mathieu. Mathieu led 7-5, 1-1 after just over 2 hours of play. Nadal was basically saying to Mathieu "I'll stay out here for 8 hours if I have to. Will you?". Nadal won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in 4 hours and 53 minutes.

He was hoping for Djokovic to get to the final because he thought he was already there even before playing a match.

Carlos is going to get another 20-30% better over the next 3-4 years. He'll be stronger, more powerful, and have an even more developed game.
Nadal and Djokovic are super lucky that Alcaraz hasn't reached his prime yet. He's just coming out of his teens.
You could easily insert Rune or Sinner as a player improving by 20-30% in 3-4 years too.
I honestly don't see Carlos winning a slam this year if he faces Djokovic in the draw.

Carlos already beat both Nadal and Djokovic last year in Madrid. He proved that he's capable. He didn't wait for anything.
hahaha he beat novak who was coming out from months off of no tournament play due to covid

he's still done nothing at grandslams besides the 1 us open win where both nadal and djokovic were also out.

Nadal lost to Tiafoe at USO. Alcaraz was waiting for Nadal in the draw.

Djoko had played Monte Carlo, belgrade before Madrid. that's 8 matches before the Alcaraz match. quit with the excuses.
Also Nadal lost in USO 22 to Tiafoe. Alcaraz would've beaten him thoroughly had they faced off there.

When he was on a roll he was going to surpass the Big 3.

Now he can't beat the old Big 3 (2 now) and he can't even beat Sinner (?) at a slam, although he already did that en route to the title.

Blah blah blah

Djokovic got trashed by Rublev in Belgrade and you think he wasn't rusty? LOL
