Nadal retiring. Djokovic close to retiring. That’s basically the two GOATs gone right there. There’s too much drama and controversy with Sinner’s doping and Zverev’s domestic violence cases. Sinner in general is just an aura-less carrot anyways.
Medvedev doesn’t inspire anyone and neither does the rest of the top 10. Just a bunch of names. Guys like Berdych, Tsonga, Davydenko, Gasquet had insane aura. Now we’ve got “Alex de Minaur”. I guess Dimitrov is still around…
Alcaraz is the last hope for the tour going forward. Kid is good and has incredible aura. Time to get behind him.
Well, I agree with some things, but have to disagree on others.
Of course Nadal is a huge loss and Djokovic WOULD be the next one. However, who knows if he's really THAT close to retirement.
Of course the Sinner doping case is bad for tennis, but other than that I don't see why he should have less an aura than Alcaraz. They are both great players, each in his way. If excessive fistpumping would be needed to create an aura, then Borg, Sampras and Federer would also never have created an aura. "Fire" AND "Ice", both creates an aura.
I also don't see how Berdych, Tsonga, Davydenko and Gasquet had an "insane aura". On the contrary, I would much rather bet on Medvedev challenging Sinner/Alcaraz than the guys you mentioned challenging the Big 3. Of course that's also because the Big 3 were better, but my point is, there was not much of an "aura" around a challenge from those guys back then.
And the Zverev case is over, like it or not. In real life nobody ever talked about it anyway. Not even my mother cared about it, and she's a big sports fan and frequently shows her dislike of Zverev. In my tennis club it was a non-topic either.
