Look Sinner is a far better player but out of 4 slams played Wimby and USO are considered a faster surfaces lol.

Nadal failed in 2022
Sinner failed in 2024
Federer won the AO/IW double in 2004, 2006 and 2017. Nadal in 2009. But they lost in February in Rotterdam, Doha or Dubaï.

No one except Djokovic in 2011 landed in Florida unbeaten... Needless to say, no one reached the Semifinal of the French Open unbeaten.

I know it's Vilas who still holds the ultimate longest winning streak (46) but Sinner's sinking today shows once again how difficult it is to remain unbeaten until the clay season. Djokovic won 43 consecutive matches in 2011 (in the middle of the era of the Big-4, which makes it even more impressive). No one is going to repeat this kind of achievement anytime soon. Sinner had his chance and blew it.

I'm not minimizing what he's achieved lately.
Just saying his loss shows how difficult it is to win back to back titles in different conditions and remain unbeaten until Miami... or later.
As good as he is... even with all his confidence and his improvements... well, he still lost his 19th match. Maybe his body failed him but hey, so did Nadal's body in 2022 when he lost his first match against Fritz... that's part of the game.
Let's see if anyone in the upcoming years can contest Djokovic's number from 2011. So far no one is getting even close...
(Well techincally, Djokovic beat his own record in 2020... 0 loss until October, but I won't count it for obvious reasons, lol...)
 
Although many underestimate the differences between the surfaces and the bounce of the ball, there are still small differences that make a certain player prevail over the other and impose their game.
That is ultimately reflected in the results.

I cant help but feel that what Nadal Federer and Djokovic did ( performing at a high level for the entire year) is not achievable in todays tennis, no matter what your level is, physicality has gone Up a notch and players bodys cant take it anymore, maybe they Will find ways to manage their bodys, but everybody that starts to play tournament after tournament ends up hurted quicker than before, we will see

Not everybody. Wrong.

It's these young players. They should get better as they age. And I think people who keep saying 19/20 year olds are at their physical peak in tennis are lying to us now. It's obvious.

I dont think they are at their physical peak, but i do think that tennis has got more physical and there are more injuries and little pains, i dont know the stats but just watching it is what i feel

I agree with this but big 3 level tennis is quite possible. The skills are there among alcaraz and sinner.

It looked like some kind of upper calf injury behind the knee to Sinner? Also he fell roughly during the match as well. Sinner showed great sportsmanship and didn’t raise any of this as an issue or do any time wasting with it, even though he may have gotten hurt.

Also good sportsmanship from Alcaraz checking on Sinner several times during the match as well particularly after the heavy fall.

We are lucky to be seeing these guys doing battle. Still some unanswered questions for me about how GOATcaraz is going to handle Sinner when he is serving at his best, though. That was an element of Sinner that Carlitos didn’t have to deal with for a good portion of the match.

It’s the best matchup in tennis now. Sinner is the only person I trust to be able to hit Carlitos Alcaraz off the court even when Alcaraz is playing well, and Alcaraz is the only guy who is think has a chance against Sinner in full flight.

the peak of level is achievable by these talented guys, but its just different tennis, its a bit faster and a bit less tactical, thats why alcaraz variety is so refreshing, but the average level all throughout the year is what i am not so sure if they will achieve, as i feel tennis is changing with this new generation, anything can happen, but theres clearly a shift, just as when it changed after sampras and agassi, that was also because of poly but still

Agree. But this is happening for quite some time. Previous gen guys Nishikori and raonic got wiped out by injuries.

i thing it really got worse when he started feeling it behing the knee, but he was also carrying the elbow pain since rotterdam, and on top of that, he kind of twisted his wrist trying to get a drop shot, credit to him because he was very gracious in his press conference but i really think his body is quite hurted now in many places

yeah maybe we didnt give it so much importance because they were not dominating and older nadal and djokovic didnt seem to have as many problems because of their tactical and mental superiority

Agree. To be honest I’m not sure I want him to push it too hard in Miami. Would prefer him to take it easy and load up ready for a massive clay season.

yeah im not so sure if he will play there, maybe he can recover decently to play a few matches but it would really surprise me if he gets far there

yeah but not at any cost, not if it means being wrecked before mid season, maybe he can be decent in 5 days but if hes not, he definetly will look long term, hes a smart guy, he will do the right thing, only he knows how manageable are his pains
 
Alcaraz was injured in Rio but he had enough time to come back. Sinner has NO time. If he is healthy which I think he is. But yes the streak has already put his physicality in question and nothing will come easy this year.

I think an 8 title season is too much for Sinner this year. He’ll most likely win 5-7

He’s Djokovic 2012/2013 level. 3M1000, ATP finals and a slam. He already has a slam

It honestly surprised me how Alcaraz recovered from the ankle, It probably wasnt a Big thing tough, thats what i mean, a player that is fighting to be number one and win slams has to make compromises when it comes to this, you cant give it all for a tournament that at the end of the year maybe is not gonna mean a lot, maybe another player would have kept playing in rio, but because he needs those points and passing a round can mean a lot, but to sinner and Alcaraz? You cant Risk being a month out even for 1000 points, you have to be smart depending on your position, its just watching the bigger picture, that said, only they know their body and how much is safe and worth to Risk, we can only speculate
