Alec Baldwin's speech from Glengarry Glen Ross sums up how I've felt about Federer the past year

WhiskeyEE

G.O.A.T.
He can't close. His comeback against Cilic and other players notwithstanding, he can't convert break points when it matters. He won, what, 30% of returns points today and 11% (1/9) of break points? This has been a theme for a long time. In big matches, he can't convert break points unless his opponent hits a UE or, better yet, double faults.

He isn't a closer and he never really was. He should've beat Novak at the USO last year, but he didn't because he was terrible on break points. Should've beaten Raonic today and then faced Andy "2-8 in slam finals" Murray on Sunday, but he didn't because he couldn't convert break points. As soon as a chance at #18 is looming, he craps the bed.

Change a few words in Alec Baldwin's speech from the movie Glengarry Glen Ross and it describes Federer's past year or two perfectly.

Novak: You're talking about what. You're talking about... *****ing about that match you shot, some opponent who don't want to lose, some title you're trying to win, so forth. Let's talk about something important. They all here?

Murray: All but one.

Novak: I'm going anyway. Let's talk about something important. Your name's Federer? You call yourself a champion you son of a *****?

Federer: I don't gotta sit here and listen to this ****.

Novak: You certainly don't pal, 'cause the good news is - you can retire. You laughing now? You're having #18 served on a silver platter. The ITF is feeding you cakewalk draws to get you another slam. Beat your opponents to win it. You can't convert the break points you're given? You can't convert ****? You ARE ****! Hit the bricks pal and beat it 'cause you are going OUT.

Federer: The break chances are weak.

Novak: The break chances are weak? ****ing break chances are weak? You're weak. You can't play in the man's game, you can't break your opponents - go home and tell your wife your troubles. Because only one thing counts in this life: winning. You hear me you ****ing ******s? A-B-W. A-Always, B-Be, W-Winning. Always be winning. ALWAYS BE WINNING.

You got the opportunities coming in. You think Raonic gave you triple break point in the fourth because he was playing well? A guy doesn't start choking unless he's a weak era clown. They're standing out there waiting to gift you the match. Are you gonna take it? Are you man enough to take it? What's the problem, pal?

Berdych: You - Novak. You're such a hero, you're so clutch, how come you're coming down here wasting your time with such a bunch of bums?

Novak: You see this French Open title? You see it?

Berdych: Yeah.

Novak: That title is worth more than your entire career. I won four slams over the last year. What did you win? You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Semi-finalist? I don't give a ****. Good father? **** you! Go home and play with your kids. You wanna be a champion - win! You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you **** sucker? You don't like it, leave. I can go out there with the draws you get and win a dozen titles. In one year! Can you? Can YOU? Go and do likewise. A-B-W. Get mad you son of a *****es. Get mad.

You want to know what it takes to win slam titles? It takes BRASS BALLS to win slam titles. Go and do likewise gents. The titles are out there. You pick them up, they're yours. You don't, I got no sympathy for you. You wanna go out on those courts and win, WIN. The trophy's yours. If not you'll be watching me lift mine from your TV. And you know what you'll be saying, Roger - a loser sittin' around in a bar. "Oh yeah. I used to be a slam champion. It's a tough racquet." This is a weak era. This is Andy Murray as a potential slam final opponent. And to you these opportunities are gold and you don't get them. Why? Because to give them to you is just throwing them away. They're for closers. I'd wish you good luck but you wouldn't know what to do with it if you got it.

And to answer your question, Tomas, why am I here? I came here because the ITF asked me to. They asked me for a favour. I said, the real favour, follow my advice and give up on your ****ing asses because a loser is a loser.

I laughed a lot but I don't agree. Federer just isn't good anymore. Watch the youtube highlights of his australian open semi final against Nadal in 2012. Now do the same for 2014. The difference is staggering. He has NO power. Right now he's a top 5 first serve with a top 3 second serve with a top 6 defence... and not much more.

ppl need to give federer a break imo...hes almost 35yrs old, playing opponents 10 yrs younger than him, and he's only played a handful of matches the entire year ( been injured, surgery, sick)...he's lucky he beat cilic...what do ppl want from him? sure he kinda blew it w 2 DFs but that's how most matches are won or lost...one little lapse

Laver is also one of the GOATs of all time . should he still be winning all his tennis matches too?

Now do Alex Baldwin operating room speech "I am god":

I have an M.D. from Harvard, I am board certified in cardio-thoracic medicine and trauma surgery, I have been awarded citations from seven different medical boards in New England, and I am never, ever sick at sea. So I ask you; when someone goes into that chapel and they fall on their knees and they pray to God that their wife doesn't miscarry or that their daughter doesn't bleed to death or that their mother doesn't suffer acute neural trama from postoperative shock, who do you think they're praying to? Now, go ahead and read your Bible, _Dennis_, and you go to your church, and, with any luck, you might win the annual raffle, but if you're looking for God, he was in operating room number two on November 17, and he doesn't like to be second guessed. You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something: I am God

TennisHound

Legend
Well, his injuries and age have made him nervous, especially on big points.

But I hope he continues to decline and not win another match, or be completely embarrassed and have all his peers team up on him with absolutely no acceptance or tolerance. Then he will know how Maria felt. Especially at his comments toward her.

Federer reply to Djokovic:

I have 7 singles titles at Wimbledon alone. I have made 49 consecutive major semifinals, I have been awarded ATP sportsmanship award 7 times and I have never, ever retired from a match. So I ask you; when someone goes into that court and they fall on their knees and they pray to God that their forehand is working, who do you think they're praying to? Now, go ahead and shun your gluten, Djokovic , and you go to your AO, and, with any luck, you might make it to the quarterfinals, but if you're looking for God, he was in SW19 , and he doesn't like to be second guessed. You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something: I am God!

Good except it's not a weak era. The field is stronger than it's ever been. Querrey, Cilic and Raonic showed that this tournament.

Funny. I just told my realtor that I don't want the Patel leads. I don't think she got my joke. I love that movie and Malice. Nobody puts a beat down like Alec Baldwin.
