No, he needs Djokovic to lose 2000 points. If Djokovic lost to Zverev in the final, for instance, he wouldn't catapult to number 1. Similar scenario for Medvedev. He can close the gap, but if Djokovic loses to him in the final, I don't think it'd be enough.

The main difference being that Fed won a slam in 2003, he got over that mental hurdle unlike Zed.

That said, I do think he was playing World #3 level tennis at last USO. First time I thought he showed World #3 form in a slam. I mean there's 2020 USO he almost won but even there he stumbled through the draw really. 2021 USO he was rock solid aside from the Sock match.

I ridicule the guy for the "no top 10 wins a slam" as much as the next TTWer but it wouldn't exactly shock me if he won a HC slam next year.
