Tennis star Alexander Zverev will reportedly stand trial in May on allegations of physical abuse from his ex-girlfriend.

German broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) has reported that a spokesperson for the Berlin criminal court has detailed that a hearing will commence from May 2024.

If German law is similar to American law, one "goes to trial" only after a criminal indictment.
And the charges are brought forth by the government, NOT by a disgruntled ex-girlfriend.
So we do not know what all this "going to trial" is all about. A hearing is not a trial.

Zverev, who has continued to deny all allegations levelled against him, is at the centre of abuse claims from his ex-girlfriend, Brenda Patea.

Kyrgios got away. Maybe Zverev will also go for the mental health excuse.

It’s always some bitter angry jaded X, stay single men…

It’s the new Salem witch trials, and all it takes is an accusation to destroy a man these days

Yes he is appealing a criminal penalty order where the proof was deemed conclusive by the public prosecutor and court that a trial was deemed unnecessary and he was given the penalty order to pay a fine which is normal for felonies not resulting in more than a year of jail time in Germany.

It doesn't actually matter that much to me, either way I don't like the guy. Never have, never will. I have my doubts that anything much will come out of it...

In America, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a criminal trial by a jury of his peers.

AFAIK, our favourite Zverev has steadfastly maintained his innocence. We would strongly urge him to continue the fight and clear his good name.

The ATP had conducted its own investigation and was considering suspending him if anything credible was found in its private enquiry. Nothing was found.

It is doubtful that a German court has formally '"convicted" him of anything.

If a German court had convicted Zverev of abuse, the ATP would have surely suspended him.
