Alexander Zverev: Root for him or no?!

I honestly have no idea whether or not to root for this kid. He's got tons of talent obviously and some evident weak spots like any younger player would have. I end up wanting him to lose against underdogs (like Almagro, right now) but in his corner when he beat Tiafoe and took Nadal to 5 in Australia.

What do you all think of him?

Basically if you want a new promising young guy to follow you have a choice of one massively arrogant punk or another only slightly less obnoxious yet still supremely arrogant punk. Good luck choosing. You can root for evil or you can root for slightly lesser but still vicious evil and kid yourself into thinking you've made a noble decision when you haven't (deal with it).

lmao

I prefer Kyrgios all the way, specially since I think he will have a bright future. I am not so sure about Alexander

For me it's either arrogant flamboyant peacock or arrogant snobbish *****.

The peacock it is.

I much prefer Kyrgios' game. He has unique game sense. Zverev is rather vanilla, but I'm not going to kill him for that at barely 20 years. Clearly, he has a solid baseline foundation with a decent serve and return but the serve must improve and he has a very poor transition game to date.

Zverev's serve is poor for a guy with that height. And I think I am being very kind with him :D

He's got the "strutting down the court looking like a world beater" act down to perfection, but that's where his game ends.

Lacking power on both serve and forehand, despite being a big guy. His long skinny legs surely haven't led to world class movement either. A far too tall player who gets zero benefit out of his length. Basically a giraffe with a tennis racket.

I like that he's clearly not afraid to take the fight to the top players but his arrogance is off-putting.

I kind of enjoyed the asskicking he got by Rafa the other day. Maybe that'll humble him down.

Also he can't volley for sh*t and his first serve has little to no placement. It has power but usually in the middle of the box.

Why do you guys say Z is arrogant?!! Not as much as Nick or Tomic... I don't think he's arrogant at all, unless if I've missed any incident specifically... Enlighten me!

well, I remember the finger wag very well. What has he won to do that? LMAO

Ah.. Yes... Right, how did I forget that!

But still, other than that I guess he's not been as bad as others.

His overall attitude is painful to watch bud. I dont hate him but it is hard to like him, specially if he folds like a cheap suit against Nadal :D

I gotta agree here. I'm trying to find reasons to like him, but he's just not matching the hype. Who knows where he'll end up in a few years. Destined to be a QF burnout like his bro?

Hmm I guess that's the problem with following tennis on YouTube highlights. I gotta get back to seeing live tennis.

Ask me again in 3 months then.

Hold your horses there - Berdych may be a choker but he is a very well accomplished player. Zverev would love to have a career like Tomas, for sure
lol, are you talking about Berdych's girlfriend ? if so she is very hot. but as far as career, it would be total disaster, Alexander is supposed to win more than 5 majors, maybe even challenge Novak for major titles.

Let me know when this kid win at least a Masters Series title. Or a 500. He just won a 250 title, he is more a promise than a reality.
Berdych career is great, probably you dont take in mind that he has to battle against Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray. All of them owned Tomas big time

This is what's happening these days...
Never been a huge fan of 'time' whatever the hell that is.
Thruth is, we all have to deal with it in our own way.

Meh...don't like his arrogance.

Me neither. An example of his arrogance? How about wagging his finger at other players (which he did in IW and Miami). How about his smug countenance on court, especially against Nick, who will almost surely be his rival in the coming years. He stopped having that smug look once Nick beat him like a rug twice in a row.

His entire bearing is like he's won multiple majors when in fact, he's not made it past round 3 in any major. As McEnroe famously told Becker during a changeover in early 1985, "hey kid, you'd better win something before you act like you own the world."

Several months later, Boris won Wimbledon. I think there's a ton of hype about this guy and I just don't see anything special in him at all. Sort of a taller version of Thiem and that's it.

Total disaster? Are you stupid?
He played a Wimbledon final and was inside the top 10 for like ten years.
That's a dream career.
yea tell that to roger Federer.... Berdych when he came out Crushed Federer in the Olympic games in Greece. and people were saying this guy is going to win at least 4 or 5 major before he is done..... LOOKs like Zero majors to me...............lol

And? You don't need majors for a great career.
He got to do what he loves (or at least likes) for a living, travelled the world and has more money than he can ever spend.

You would decline such a career? Sure.

Tennis careers and greatness in it is measured by how many majors you win ....... not by how much money you made. I say Andre Gomez and Johansson who has only 1 major each had 100 X better career than Berdych...

I mean... Anyone who roots against somebody his age/at his stage of development is no fan of the game. He shows plenty of promise, he has plenty of time to develop his skills/nerve in the years to come, what possible reason could there be to not want him to do well? That match between him and Kyrgios in Miami was hope for the future incarnate. More of the same, please.

Total ********, you have no clue.

There is tennis besides the #1 and #2.
Like Ferrer, another fantastic career without a major.

What about Ferrer? He has zero slams and he has a greater career than those guys.
You cannot value only slams to define how great is a player. Tomas was unfortunate to have Nadal, Djokovic and Federer to stop him from slams. If not for these guys, he would have at least a couple of slams, I dont have a single doubt.
This guy has been top 10 so much time... 95% of the tour would take that (and his wife of course :D) any day, make no mistake, even acknowledging he is a mental midget
