I wonder whether some of the people who still have Meddy ahead would put Zeddy ahead if he were to lose the Wimbledon final. Winning Wimbledon settles it beyond reasonable debate. Losing the semis probably doesn’t move the needle for many. But making the final might do enough for some. Personally, I already have Zeddy ahead but only narrowly and I see it as debatable. If Zeddy makes the Wimbledon final, I think it gives him a decisive lead even if he loses it. Making all four slam finals is a big deal.

Yeah I said in another thread I'd have to move Zed ahead should he make the final.
On the other hand, if Medvedev had gotten Arthur Fery in a Wimbledon semi he'd likely be a Wimbledon finalist as well. With his Sinner scalp, I think it'd still be fair to have Medvedev ahead of Zed at Wimbledon (should the German lose in the final on Sunday) - but importantly, this Wimbledon run from Zverev has been better than any of Medvedev's runs at Roland Garros. Med being a bit better on his worst surface than Zverev was on his worst was a point in Daniil's favor, but I think that argument's kind of out the window now.

Reasonable to have Meddy ahead at Wimbledon, though of course that is comparing him at his 3rd best slam to Zeddy at his fourth best. Meddy is clearly worse at Wimbledon than Zeddy is at any of the other three slams, I think.

Zverev was already a great player in 2017 & 2018 when Medvedev was nowhere. And Zverev is still a great player in 2026 when Medvedev is nowhere again.
Medvedev had a couple of good years. Zverev had a decade of consistent top level tennis.

Medvedev isn't exactly nowhere right now. He's ranked #9 in the world. With that said, he has dropped off from where he was a few years ago, especially in Slams, but he's still that guy that beat Djokovic, Alcaraz and Sinner in Slams when they were #1 and has been ranked #1 himself. Zverev doesn't have those kinds of wins in Slams although he has the better longevity than Medvedev. If he wins Wimbledon by beating Sinner or Djokovic, I would put him above Medvedev but right now for me Medvedev is still ahead.
This is the best argument in favor of Medvedev. When comparing one-slammers with multiple slam finals, at least one WTF championship, and a couple handfuls of Masters titles, the no. 1 ranking is the best tiebreaker. Sixteen weeks at the very top is not a lot of time, but it's better than zero weeks.
A very good Zverev will be needed, in the era of A&S!
