25 of 30 conferences represented. 75 different schools in the large PreQ draw of 256 including 4 US freshmen with ATP points:Ryan Goetz (VA), Lukas Greif (FL), Axel Nefve (Notre Dame), and Noah Schachter (Texas A&M). In addition James Trotter UTR 13.7 from Ohio State is in pre Q. I checked the list as of 11/26; I apologize if any of the players have dropped out or moved to Q draw since then. US freshmen players with ATP points in Q draw are Mason Beiler (OK) and Alexandre Rotsaert (Stanford). Freshman Sam Riffice ATP 714 (Florida) is in main draw. Some Power schools have players in all 3 draws. SEC has the most guys in tourney(65)-Ole Miss is sending 10, Florida 9, Arkansas 8. Every team in SEC and Big 12 is sending players. Pac 12 is only missing Utah while ACC is missing Boston College. However, Big 10 is sending less than 30 players with OSU accounting for 1/3 of them. Notre Dame is sending 9 as is OSU. Ivy representation is mainly Columbia with one guy from Dartmouth. Regardless it should be a fun event with many players having the opportunity to play guys they usually dont get to play.
Last year one guy from Oklahoma who started in preq won 9 matches straight to reach the R16 of main draw. Probably only a local guy could miss more than a week of school There are close to 20 guys in preQ with UTRs 13.5-14 including some of the above mentioned freshmen; it will be interesting to see if a couple of those make it into the MD.
Which freshmen do you think will be breakout stars over the next week?
