All milestones achieved by Novak Djokovic in 2016

Everyone knows that Novak Djokovic's previous season was unreal. Nobody stood a chance as he won almost every big title and played every big final. Inferior only to the Calendar Year Grand Slam that Rod Laver achieved back in 1969, Novak Djokovic has set an incredibly high standard in 2015. The milestone thread https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...es-achieved-by-novak-djokovic-in-2015.549176/ which was a tribute to that season was an unexpected success as Novak Djokovic official website spotted it and posted the content themselves. http://novakdjokovic.com/en/news/media/novak-sets-gold-standard-in-record-breaking-2015-season/

He didn't have the same success in 2016 and honestly it would have been crazy if he did. The consistency turned from flawless to very good. It might not look like a big difference but this year it was big enough for us to see a new king and heavyweight champion rise and dethrone Djokovic. A dream year for him where he participated in amazing 13 finals and won personal best 9 titles, including Wimbledon, Olympic Gold, World Tour Finals and 3 Masters titles was crowned when he defeated his childhood friend in the O2 Arena today and sealed the Year-End #1 title... Many congratulations to Andy Murray.

New king of tennis - Andy Murray's post-USO 24 match winning streak as well as amazing consistency throughout the year was enough to dethrone Novak Djokovic from the top spot

Novak Djokovic had some disappointments in 2016. Heartbreaking loss at the Olympics, fifth runner-up spot in New York, not reaching all finals anymore, a fall from #1 that nobody saw coming in such a quick manner... But that didn't prevent him from leaving a huge mark in tennis history this season. If you started watching tennis after the legendary Rod Laver, and there are plenty of people who did that, you didn't witness any male player hold all four Grand Slam titles... Until the 5th of June 2016, when Novak Djokovic finally, finally, finally won the French Open title that eluded him for so long and achieved the Nole Slam, holding Wimbledon, US Open, Australian Open and Roland Garros. All 4 Slams, on 3 different surfaces, something never seen before and despite the fact that we will get many more great champions in the future it is going to take an incredibly cool head and a crazy amount effort for someone to achieve that.

Highest overall match winning percentage - 83,0 % (742-152)

2007 and 2008 were breakthrough seasons. 2009 and 2010 were a crisis period. 2011 was unreal dominance and unexpected rise to the number 1. 2012, 2013 and 2014 had some slumps and disappointing losses. Luckily they made Novak even stronger and he had an even bigger dominance in 2015. 2016 is the beginning of his decline, but also the year when we got to see him achieve something stunning. Despite suffering the toughest career loss at the 2015 French Open final, Novak Djokovic went on to have the most dominant 12 months in history of this beautiful sport, and he crowned it by winning Coupe des Mousquetaires and holding all four Slams. There are records that he will never break, but this run alongside many other achievements, amazing tennis, exceptional fighting spirit, constant will to improve and always acknowledging the better player on the day has sealed his place among the greatest players ever and it's the reason why he is to me the most awesome guy ever to pick up a tennis racquet.

The curse ended and history was written at Roland Garros - No holes in the resume anymore and now it's all about trying to stay among the best and add more titles to one of the finest tennis legacies
AJDE NOLE!!!

You still might have left something out. ;)

It's weird not seeing him at the top spot anymore but it's still a great season while Murray deserved his moment of fame after all the hard work he has put in.

Apart from the ending, an enjoyable year. A lot of credit goes to Andy and Novak for that. Bring on 2017!

Not sure if all these are records but a few others I can think of:

• Finished with 11,000+ ranking points for the 6th year in a row.
• 5th season winning at least 30 matches in Masters events.
• 7th season(and 6th consecutive) winning 50+ matches at Slams, Masters and WTF.
• Only the 3rd player(after Federer and Connors) to win 60+ matches for 10 consecutive seasons.
• Only the 2nd player after Lendl to finish with single digit defeats for a fifth time in six years.
• Only the 2nd player to finish 4 consecutive seasons with 60+ match wins and single digit defeats.
• Second player after Federer to reach 5 successive WTF finals.
• Second player after Federer to spend 300 consecutive weeks inside the top 2.
• Won at least 20 matches against top 10 players for the fifth time in six years.

Fantastic by Djokovic. He is a champion in and out and I'm sure he will continue to have great success although his end to the year wasn't as successfull as he had hoped for.

i had no idea that he has so many records in djokovic

but i think its the beginning of end for djokovic now

he is mentally/physically tired becuase he couldnt defeat murray or win a set against murray in the final

even murray played i believe two 3 set matches on consecutive day firday & saturday

i am not sure about this

Quite crazy how the year can be divided into 2 like this year and those two parts belonged to 2 different players(1st half to Djokovic and 2nd half to Murray). I think the best player should be the guy with the most points so it is Murray in 2016, but the player of the year, who I regard as the player who achieved some exceptional feat, should be Djokovic as he has achieved something that hasn't happened for nearly 50 years, which was holding all 4 slam titles at the same time.

DLRD you did an amazing job. :) This topic should stand alongside those which congratulate Murray on his deserved success, because these 2 players have made this year.

Thanks. :) Today or in a few days, there will also be a 2016 gallery/highlights/review thread as a tribute to all the players.

A truly fantastic year. As much as I'm thrilled for Murray's YE #1, it is important that Novak's 1st half of the season never gets overlooked because he made history. Huge list of achievements!

2014 when he finished on 19. ;) Would've had a good shot at getting to 20 that year too had Federer not put his back out in the WTF semis.
Wow, even at times when he doesn't appear, Federer doesn't allow Djokovic to reach some numbers. ;)

He also had poor results at hard court Slams that year, at least for his standards.

Something else I just realised is that by the end of the year he'll become only the second player after Federer to spend 300 consecutive weeks inside the top 2. I'll add it to my list. ;)
