Almost official, Marat hired Peter Lundgren

Peter with him at Estoril and it looks like they are going to work together. Already some Purtugese media spreading the news even though nothing was signed yet.
I think Lundgren should help him in a big way. At least now he will know how to beat Roger.
What do all of you think about the combination??

A swedish coach who worked with Roger Federer during his rise to the top(don't know for how long).

Lundgren worked with Roger for three years, and did a huge amount to get him focused, confident, and consistent. As Federer admits, he was often bad tempered and out of control on the court. Lundgren, Swedish, age 40, played on ATP tour for about 10 years, won a couple of titles, and self-admittedly wasted his career (he was very good) living the good life & told Roger to make sure he didn't make the same mistake. according to Fed. He also coached Rios. His a down-to-earth guy, obviously is up to coaching challenges, and I think he will be great for Safin who has known him for a long time. Great choice IMO.

C-Urala, agin you display your ignorance for the board to see. For someone so ignorant, you are highly opinionated.

Lundgren was a good Swedish player who could've been a great Swedish player.

The only thing about Safin is he doesn't stay with anyone for too long. It almost seems that the guy detests success. He worked with Wilander for a while and that didn't stick. I think he's had a succession of coaches that for one reason or another just didn't work out. I could understand one or two guys not clicking, but when it's everybody he gets, the problem may rest with Safin himself.

Lungren was one of the better Borg clones that Sweden produced. He had the same look, the mimic in his groundies, the long hair and headband.

Wilander ended the relationship with Safin because he didn't want to travel. He has a buunch of little chiildren one of which has a serious medical ailment. I think the child is hypersensitive to sunlight.

I think it's a great choice. Safin's personality will match with Lundgren well and they had known each other for quite long. I believe previously when Lundgren was coaching Roger, he always arrange Roger to practice with Safin or play double together. I think Lundgren should be good for Safin unlike the joker Brad Gilbert who so one-sidedly said only Andy and Safin will make him coach again. Ya right, Safin outright told him to just mind his own business. What a joke.

I think either Lundgren or Gilbert would be great coaches for Safin since he is the type A player with all the gifts but needs to learn to master mental tennis. This should be a very successful relationship if Safin can keep his mind open to positive thinking otherwise he maybe looking for a psychologist

I don't know if it's fair to call Lundgren a Borg clone. Yes, he had the hair, but that guy played an awful lot of S&V. His best slam result was a 4th round appearance at Wimbledon in 89. The reason I mention this is because he used to be held up as an example that you could volley well even if you hit a two-hander.

I really think that Safin has some sort of personality disorder....maybe ADD, which is a real pity as he is so talented. Hopefully he can stay with a coach long enough to get results

Would that every person was as talented, athletic, multilingual, witty, intelligent , accomplished, wealthy, charismatic, generous, newsworthy and good-looking as Safin. Lucky for him his tennis expertise extends beyond posting about tennis and criticising players on messageboards.

Every ignorant person is always highly opinionated. It's just the law of nature. So, if you want to insult me, try better. Well, it's off topic. Sorry.

Lundgren also coached Rios for some time. I believe he brought him from top 60 to top 10.
I hope this combo really works out!!

OK Phil, you're on. I 've bookmarked your post. I bet you a smashed racket he's with Safin for a long time...looking at years, here & I really think this is going to work. This is now or never time for Safin and he knows it.
