Don't know which one to go with. Seems I can't go wrong with either, but just to be sure. I would prefer the one with the best clamps, however if one is much better than the other I would obviously go with that one.

I've had the Axis Pro for several years and its been great. My clamps were worn out and I actually replaced them last year with the Tourna clamps which are nice. The Tourna clamps are stamped with a texture pattern instead of having a Diamond dust coated insert like the Alpha. Biggest thig I would maybe prefer on the Tourna is that it has 1 knob for adjusting each pair of support arms while the Alpha is individual articulated (4 knobs total for the arms).

so the tourna clamps fit the axis base... is that just lucky or do manufactures make a standard size clamp?
and also do the clamp bases generally wear out similar to the clamps

You have to know the mm measurement of the clamp and the base post to ensure compatibility. In my case both brands are 12mm but others may be 12.2, etc so they wouldn't work. I've never had any issues with the bases wearing out but I did switch my stock Alpha bases to the Gravity Release ones bc the switch action locking mechanism is faster than the stock spring base ones.

thx for the info... do you still have the stock alpha bases? i might be interest to buy them if you didnt want them.

Sorry, I sold them when I first made the swap. I've upgraded a lot of things on my Alpha (Wise head, Gravity bases, updated side supports, etc) and the Gravity clamps are my favorite upgrade and were worth the money IMO.

@owen S.,

I'm a bit confused.

Previously, you were trying to decide between the Gamma 7900, Alpha Ghost 2, and the Tourna 700-ES.

Now, your asking about 2 distinctly different machines.

So, before I say anything regarding the Axis Pro or the 300-CS, what happened with the 3 previous candidates?

I THINK, based on pictures, that the Tourna has cone-lock base clamps vs the Alpha which has quick/switch action bases.

I'd buy based on that (Alpha). Now if you get into upgrading things, that choice may change, but in stock form, that would be my choice.

Axis Pro stock bases are spring assisted action. They may be easier than cone lock but still will take more force to lock than the true switch action on the Alpha Gravity Release bases.

Yeah, the terminology for them is always tough. I had eagnas with essentially the same Alpha bases
and i'f prefer that over cone lock. They worked just fine (yes, they required adjustment at times as eagnas
tolerances aren't Alpha tolerances).

Even my Gamma base clamps aren't the best (user-wise, to ME), but they are rock solid. I think i keep them tighter than most do
so maybe i should loosen a tad (i've gone back and forth). I may upgrade at some point, but
unnecessary with my low volume.

I just decided to cut down on costs because while I string for buisness, it's just a side gig, and not a job so I didn't need one of those super nice machines.
