Alpha Axis Pro vs. Alpha Apex 2

Hello fellow stringers,

I used to string in the past on an older Ektelon model that I no longer have. As I'm getting back into stringing, I am looking for a new machine. I was originally looking to get the Prince/Neos 1000, but someone told me that for that amount of money, it would be worth looking at the Alpha machines that have some advancements. Have any of you used the Alpha Axis Pro or Alpha Apex 2 who are willing to share your experiences? For those of you with experience with both, I would like to know your thoughts on the differences.

Thank you in advance for you assistance and feedback.

I use the Axis Pro and am very happy with it. I hear the Prince Neos is still a formidable machine in terms of dependability and functionality. I think any Alpha machine is good quality, and their customer service is excellent.

I think Tennis Warehouse sells the Revo 4000 with free shipping, but I'm guessing you aren't looking for a tabletop. Happy hunting. Here's two pics of my Axis Pro.

Thanks Netgame. I heard the main difference between the Axis Pro and Alpha 2 is the mounting system. I guess the Alpha has a "floating" setup whereas there is supposed to be less obstruction of the grommet holes. Did you check that machine out at all or hear anything about it. I think it's about a $200 difference.

I spoke with Alpha a few weeks back. The Apex II is not available immediately. You do have to preorder it. The Axis Pro is available.

I believe the mounting system of the Axis Pro is similar if not identical to the Alpha Revo 4000. The tables are different. The Revo has a thicker table. You do have to adjust the mounting posts and the side supports.

The Apex II does use the suspension mounting system. Mounting system is similar to the Gamma 6004. Mounting is supposed to be very quick. The Apex II has less adjustments than the Revo and Axis Pro to mount the racquet. Only a couple of dual knobs on the head and throat. There are pics of one owner on varuscelli's site of the Apex II.

Apex II is worth the extra $ if you want faster mountings and do a lot of string jobs.

I am really interested in the Gamma 6004 or Apex II as my next stringer.

I have an Axis Pro and am quite happy with it. I find it to be very easy to use and really like how Alpha treats you as a customer. I think you'll be happy with either one as there really isn't a huge difference in performance. Your best bet is to try them.

BTW, I'm selling my Axis Pro in the buy and sell section. While I like it, my girlfriend's little brother has been doing my racquets for free.:p

I have an Apex I. I like it a lot. The suspension mounting system is topnotch, and it only has 1 know on each end to move the arms. This helps get the racket centered more easily. The new Apex models have circular rails for the swivel clamps which is nice. I have a Wise tension head for mine also. They are a great combo. If I had it to do again, I'd still get an Apex (Apex II) and a Wise tension head.

I have the Apex II and I cannot say enough nice things about it. I used to string on a Neos and this machine is, in my opinion, far superior. Does anyone else out there have an Apex II ? It seems that I may have one of the few (only?) Apex IIs that Alpha actually shipped out to customers. If you get a chance to pick one up I recommend that you do so.

Chicken Neck,

Can you tell me why you think the Apex II is far superior over the Neos? I am really interested in it. How were you able to get it so early?

Thanks

Well, actually I was interested in the Blu-DC and I called Alpha with some questions about that machine. During this conversation I just happened to ask Mark if Alpha had any new machines in the works and he told me that the Apex II would be coming very shortly and that it was definitely worth the wait. After Mark described the machine to me I told him I would take one. A few weeks later the machine arrived and I have been very pleased with it. Mark told me that Alpha is also coming out with a machine similar to the Apex II in all respects with the single exception of the rails, which are curved. P.S. when I asked Mark if he thought it was worth the extra 150- 200 USD and the additional wait for that machine, he told me it was not.

By the way, as regards the comparison between the Neos and the Apex II, I love the Neos. However, the mounting system and the clamps of the Apex II as well as the fact that the turntable of the Neos does not rotate 360 degrees really tipped the scales in favor of the Alpha.

I wouldn't have sold it. If you break up, you're screwed. ;)
