Alpha Revo 4000 or Laserfibre Quantum TT Eco

I will be buying my first stringing machine and my budget is $600. So far I have narrowed down my choices to two machines. I wanted your opinion what would you pick between Alpha Revo 4000 and Laserfibre Quantum TT Eco? Which is more accurate between Crank and Constant pull machine? Thanks for help in advance.

I don't know about the TT but I love my Alpha Revo. So easy to string on and it's solid as a rock. I check my tension regularly and it stays on target with little variance. The constant pull will probably be a bit more accurate but the lock out machines are good, too. You can compensate for the difference by adding a couple of pounds to the crank.

I just ordered the LF quantum saturday. waiting for it to arrive.

How much slower are we talking assuming that the stringer is equally familiar with both the machines?

It is not slower. I had an Alpha Revo, and now have an LF Quantum TT premium. The LF is any angle constant pull... assuming you don't bottom out, one drop of the tension bar is all it takes to tension the string.

IMO, the only disadvantage you have on the LF vs the Revo is the absence of a turn table brake... should not be a big issue unless you string a lot of Prince O3s. But then again, LF provides you (or at least they used to, not sure if they still do) with 2 types of boomerang for use on O3s to compensate for the absence of a turn table brake.

Constant pull vs Lock-out... obviously I went for the constant pull.:)

Thanks for your reply KingO. In your response you implied that LF is at par if not better when it comes to speed and has a slight disadvantage when stringing racquets that require turn table brake but what about the advantages? Do you really see a great advantage with constant pull that will make LF a clear winner? Do you really have to go 10% or more in tension setting while using Revo in order to achieve results close to a professional job? Your opinion is of value since you have used both the machines.

Constant pull is better for the string, more accurate, and the Quantum has a diablo nose cone.

I like the color better too :D

Let me put it this way... minus the issue with the turn table brake, IMO, you would need to add a Wise 2086 ($500 extra) to the Revo to make it comparable. But if you decide to go that route, Revo with a Wise would be a clear winner then.

Do you really have to go 10% or more in tension setting while using Revo in order to achieve results close to a professional job?

With a crank machine, you start losing tension the second the crank locks-out until you clamp the string. I never did it when I was using the Revo, but I suppose the 10% up in tension is to allow you time to clamp the string, and still end up with your desired tension. You need to be consistent with your time between lock-out and clamping the string though, otherwise you would have a variance of tension loss from string to string, if you are not.

Your opinion is of value since you have used both the machines.

Hope this helps:)

According to the USRSA:
Different string materials and constructions, and different racquet head sizes, will require different amounts of compensation to match the stringbed stiffness produced by a constant-pull machine to that produced by a lockout machine. For racquets with smaller heads and/or with lower elongation strings, use tensions toward the minimum . For racquets with larger heads and/or with higher elongation strings, use tensions toward the maximum .

They have a calculator to approximate the stringbed stifness between the 2 types once the reference tension is entered, with a minimum and maximum number, you then go somewhere between those numbers depending on variables listed above.
So with that in mind, 10% puts you in the ballpark, then adjust up or down depending on string and racquet size..or if you are a member you can use their (USRSA) online calculator

Hmm... musta taken a lot of time to decide man. I have no regrets on my machine and you shouldn't have regrets on any machine you purchase.

Thanks a lot guys for your input. I have decided to go with laserfibre Quantum and infact have placed the order. I have been told that it will take a week before it ships. I will post pictures as soon as I receive the machine.

Yes, it seems they're on back order. Did you select your strings?

Laserfibre store told me that they have a thruput of 7 machines a day and with the existing orders it will take 6-7 working days before the machine is shipped. I believe there are just one or two people who fabricate or assemble these machines by hand everyday. I did select the strings and the person on the phone was extremely nice and took time in explaining about the strings and the machine.

Hopefully it's a solid machine. I doubt that they put it together by hand though.

And yes, Ted was really nice to me too.

Did you got yours? I never got mine, and had to file for fraud protection.

i'm gonna say no. i searched his profile for you and found this post on 4-22-09

I cannot tell you which machine is better but I can definitely tell you that don't buy Laserfibre. I ordered my machine about 45 days back and after receiving fake tracking number and estimates from LF, I tried to cancel the order. I could not get my money back from LF untill I disputed the charge with my creidt card company. I received the credit just two days back. If you look at posts in this forum you will find that I am not the only one. I will now be placing order with Stringway (ML 90).

Honestly, although there are some reports on this site, I don't know anyone who got their Laserfibre Quantum. I was on the wait list for 14 months... Others claim to receive orders in days, as I waited on the waitlist. Weird company. I call to place an order, get someone. Later, I call to check on the status and no one answers. Now, I cannot even find someone to take an order for grips and strings. The online site locks up when I try to send them my money. Oh well.

P.S. the stringway looks to be a much better machine, and I something for which I would pay extra. Looks like a lifetime product that is built like a tank.
