ALTA league levels

I'm sure there are reams of threads on this topic -- the correct answer is that it's not really comparable. There are far too many variables not the least of which is that an ALTA team typically has significant variation by line whereas a USTA team is technically equivalent (i.e., all 4.0 players) and even in reality though there is variation, it's just not nearly as much as an ALTA team.

However, since you just want the shortcut version anyway I would say that's in the ballpark anyway of 4.5+ because even though A-1 line 1 is easily a 5.0+ while A-1 line 5 could possibly be as low as a 4.0 but probably more like a 4.5.

FWIW, I got bumped to 4.0 USTA (technically 15 months ago but appealed since I was so close and then got bumped again 3 months ago) and play successfully at the very bottom of an A-7 mixed team and literally the bottom (line 5) of an A-5 men's team. Our top guys are 4.5-5.0 on the A-5 team.

Reason I ask is because the team I was on last season was AA and I ended up playing a 4.5 and 5.0 USTA rated players.

Most of your AA teams will be rated 4.5 and above. My team fluctuates around A-2 to A-4 usually and we have about a 50/50 mix of 4.5 and 4.0 players. As someone mentioned it's hard to compare since ALTA practically allows you to sign up for any level you want to. I've ran into 5.0 players playing A-4 in the past just because they want to play out of that subdivision/park or with their friends. I would expect at A-1 to play mostly 4.5+ players. At lines 4 or 5 there could be a couple of high 4.0's thrown in there. It'll be good hard tennis for sure.

I think most of players might be 4.5+ for A-1 level. Probably weaker team might have decent 4.0 who can return serves and rally with 4.5 or double specialist but one will be line 5. ALTA has wide range of players because some people do not want to travel so staying lower level in their neighborhood or busy to play afternoon so playing line 1 at lower level etc......
Some teams are built for play off so often see very strong teams during play off time.

Our #1 #2 line lost in 3 sets. But our #3 4 and 5 won. I played line 5 against two guys that might be B level. I won 1-1
