Alternative Surfaces

The league should come up with new surfaces to play on instead of the normal hardcourt, clay, and grass. I have some ideas:

Hardwood (similar to basketball gyms - balls would travel lightning fast!)
Artificial grass (the grass would be evenly distributed across the court)
Rubber (imagine balls bouncing really high!)
Sponge-like material (would be easy on the feet)

What do you think? Other ideas?

If I'm not mistaken, decades ago some tournaments used to be played on wood. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Funny thread. But I'm sure some of these surfaces are a danger to the players health. That is why they are not allowed. Grass I think is a little risky due to the bad slips. But I guess not enough bad slips to stop them. Hard courts are by far the safest surface.

I sprained my wrist because I slipped on synthetic grass court while wearing hardcourt shoes. Now I've got grasscourt shoes and it surely makes a big difference.. hasn't slipped once since.
