ALU power rough

do you guys think that ALU power rough is better by itself, or put in a hybrid with PHT (pro hurricane tour), cuz i usually put the pht on the crosses, and alu in the mains, my question is whether its better by itself or in the hybrid, if not with pht, which hybrid string would you recommend? thnx

It just Depends on what you're looking for and what you personally prefer. Some players would prefer they hybrid, some would rather All Alu Rough, some All Hurricane Tour. Personally I'd rather then full set of ALU.

I've currently got it in the mains of my PS 6.1 Classic and one of my AG300s, with TexFlex Premium (a very nice syn gut) in the crosses. It actually hybrids quite well but still feels stiff on the arm. Both are strung at 60 mains / 65 crosses and I wish I'd have gone 5lbs lower on the AG300, it's certainly more uncomfortable on that racket.

I put my rough in the mains and my syngut duraflex in crosses at 56. havent hit with it yet but i will let you know how it feels.

Alu rough is a great string on it's own but slightly better as a hybrid IMO. I string it at 53lbs in a head mg extreme pro. I've had it as a hybrid with different multi's in the past but the durability for me was very very poor on each one. Alu rough seemed to just saw through the multi in about 4 - 6 hours. On it's own it lasts a while. Never played with PHT so I can't comment on it.
Regards

I don't think there is a definitive answer to your question - it all comes down to personal preferance. I prefer a full bed of Alu Power Rough. Others, like Doctor Dennis above, prefer it in a hybrid. You just need to experiment with it and determine what works best for your game.

I don't quite understand why you would hybrid Alu with PHT - as they are both fairly similar strings. ???

Take care.

You should try both and see what you like best. Personally for me, if I use alu rough/power, I usually hybrid them with someone soft like natural gut. From what I've seen on these boards. People usually hybrid them with nat gut or syn gut, I don't see many hybrid of poly with poly. It might be a bit tough on your arms, but that varies from person to person as well.

Try it both ways. Personally, I don't see the point of hybriding two polys. But the only way to tell is to try both hybrids and both by themselves.

Out of curiosity, what was your reason for using a hybrid? Usually, it's to combine two different types of strings, but those two are both in the same general category in terms of response and durability.

ALU Rough in a full bed is amazing. Never wanted to try it in a hybrid.

Since the string itself is rough, it'll probably eat away any multifiliments.

Plus, why would you hybrid it with PHT? You're not getting the full benefit of PHT if it's in the crosses, and it certainly isn't going to make your stringbed any softer. Unless you like the color scheme or something, there really isn't a need to hybrid the two.

In my experience, ALU Rough mains, and Multi crosses lasts about half as long as full ALU Rough with the cross snapping. ALU Rough mains and VS Gut crosses lasts the same as full ALU Rough with the mains snapping.

I have to second this. Alu Rough Mains with Gut Crosses lasts a long time.

so u like nrg2 more than gut?

Yea, but it lasts half as long.

NRG2/ALUR I like better than Full ALUR when playing against ppl who don't hit hard, or for dubs.

For hitting out in singles Full ALUR is king.

My string progression since my grand (ok, mediocre) return to tennis.

Started with NXT Tour 17.

Switched to NXT Tour 16 to get 20 hours out of a stringjob.

Switched to LFSNG 16 because it was the best string I had ever used.

Switched to LFSNG 16 X / ALU R M when I started breaking the LFSNG16 in 1/2 hour.

Switched to NRG2X/ALUR M when I realized that LFSNG 16 sucked ass as a cross.

Switched to full ALUR when I started breaking NRG2/ALUR in 3-4 hours.

Switched to ALUR X/ Ashaway 16g Kevlar M when I started breaking Full ALUR in 1-1 1/2 hours.

As a PHT/Gut user, do you guys suggest that I string up Lux Alu Rough by itself or a hybrid w/ Gut in the cross.

Please give me a response and a reason if you can ! Thanks !

Just curious, when Luxilon says to string 10 % lower, do you guys listen ? Is it true? If I string PHT normally at 57 on the mains, how tight should I string the Lux?

I'm doing the ALU rough/wilson natty gut crosses, it feels good but after hitting for about 5 minutes i can already see it tearing away at the natty guts, will know when it breaks. I will say that it does feel simply amazing! but fear i will be spending lots of money restringing constantly.

I'm also experimenting with the Pro Hurricane Tour/VS gut hybrid too, and i like it, i just wish the PHT's yellow didn't look so ugly on a Youtek speed pro.

^^^^ So would you prefer the PHT/VS or the ALu rough / Wilson Natty (which is also VS re packaged)

I am not a string popper so gut hasn't been a problem ever.

I prefer the Alu to the PHT, but then again everyone is different, so it's just a matter of personal preference. I'd recommend hybriding with gut if that's what you're used to doing, rather than a full set up of Poly. If I'm switching someone from a synthetic gut or multi I tell them to drop 10% of tension when switching to Lux, but if they are switching from another poly I generally tell them to stay the same in tension.

Thanks thats great advice ! So I will stick w/ my normal poly tension. And I will stick w/ the hybrid to test out these Alu Rough strings.

Have you decided yet on a setup?

Big Banger ALU Power Rough is the choice of the Bros. Bryan. They use and endorse it. http://www.tennisidentity.com/tenni...n-exclusive-contract-with-luxilon-string.html

I don't believe that they mix it with anything else but am checking.

I was recently looking at the stringing logs from this year's Sony Ericcsson Open. I can't remember how I found them, but it was through these messaging boards.Anyway, they show Mike Bryan stringing ALU Rough in the mains with Babolat VS in the crosses. Bob Bryan was playing with a full bed of Prince Recoil.

They both used Alu Rough and Babolat Gut. Here’s the link to the String log. http://www.baiardo.info/cms/index.php/eng/Tour/Sony-Ericsson-Open-2009
Click on stringing details at the bottom (and yes this is on another thread here somewhere, just seemed relevant to post it again for connivance.)
Since then the Bryans have signed a deal with Luxlion.
