Hey im about to put Alu rough in my yonex RDX 500 (90) and im wonderin what tension i should use. I used to use gosen polylon at 60 lbs, so what tension should i string the alu at to generate a similar feel? I've tried luxilon before just not in this racquet. Also, i would appreciate any feedback on ALU rough because i've never tried it before. :) Im hoping the lux to give me more spin than my current cheap poly, and the last time i used luxilon LTS in my old racquet, spin was awesome! thanks for feedback!!

The lux does need a tension drop. Lux recommends 10%, but 5 -7% seems to work for me.

As far as the ALU rough vs. ALU normal...I couldn't distinguish between them. Didn't notice any extra spin.

Maybe try a hybrid with a textured string as the cross for extra bite.

oh i forgot to mention another question: Could i hybrid the ALU rough in the mains with my cheap gosen polylon in the crosses(i have a reel of the polylon)? would it generate almost same feel as all lux job?and i'd probably have to string the crosses higher cuz they arent luxilon. this could potentially save me money :)

The increased life you will get from the ALU makes the cost difference far less. They last three times longer for me than strings such as NXT or XP live Wire.

I have never felt a difference between the two. Both have the same playing chariteristics. Not sure what others find. I have also found no difference between the two colors of the ALU. I know some have suggested not dropping the tension, but I do. Unless you are hitting with the power of professionals than I have found that dropping the tension below 56lbs gives a good pocket and response. I find the spin with the ALU is very good. I do not recommend the string for pusher or those that simply rely on touch shots all of the time. It performs the best on shots with pace hitting against players with pace.

THBJ, im currently using bb ace at 65lbs (LM Rad Tour), and will try alu or alu rough next time. about dropping tension, i started with 55, then 60 and finally found the rigth tension for me at 65. I dont know why but i never found the control that everyone talks about in lower tensions, always found myselef hitting long. Well, just want to know if u have tried ace and what u think of it compared to alu. txs, cya. Andre

The first Lux I tried was the ACE. It was a nice string, which I found to have a little more power than the ALU. I used the 18g of the ACE. It broke fairly quickly (not as quick as wilson strings do but after two or three matches). I love to crush my forehands, especially on service returns, which is the best part of my game. When I tried the ALU for the first time, I was playing our club pro. I was playing a very strong player that has too much control for me to let the point last too long. I found that the percentage of shots going long was substantially lower and have continued to find that. After winning the first set, he asked what I had done and I told him about the ALU. I did not see many forehands in the second or third set.

I find the ACE a good string. Breaks quicker than ALU and has more power (something I don't need). ACE better for serve and volleys and ALU better on groundstrokes. ACE more power/ALU more control. I think the tension drop is more important for the 16g ALU than the 18g ACE. ALU/fresh can of Tennis balls/heavy groundstrokes=perfection. I never play an NTRP tourny that goes three sets without asking for a fresh can.

I don't think I could really tell any difference in spin. Most of that has to do with you rather than the string. I would guess that the thinner gage ACE could be better, but I get good spin with both strings.
