am I a pusher?

just wondering if you guys would classify my game as pushing i get ALOT back and without that much pace (but some pace) my general strategy is to just not let the other guy get into a rhythem, I mix it up alot in the point, hitting lobs, slices, short spinny balls and a good amount of angles, I also like to use my two handed slice which is generally a good defensive shot because it takes such an awkward bounce nobody really knows what to do with it. I can hit the ball fairly hard but I usually only do that on put aways, I generally dont volley much because when I get a short ball I either hit it as hard as I can and get a winner or miss. anyway, would you guys call that pushing or not?

You could be a pusher/junk-baller/counterpuncher. Your mental approach resembles a pusher. Do you hit full strokes or with partial follow through? Pushers don't like coming to the net and are content with annoying opponents into making mistakes. It seems you like to attack weak balls, so you might have a counterpuncher aspect. You like to throw some shots that could qualify you as a junk-baller or dinker.

In any event, you fall into the defensive (pusher/counter-puncher) family of playing styles. That works well at the 3.0 and maybe 3.5 levels. Anything above that and you'll likely get exposed.

Am I a pusher ?

Are you wearing panties ?

Where is that thread that has a greaat example of classifying players ?

pusher, junkballer, counter puncher, all courter, you are what you are. I have been called a pusher and junkballer but consider myself an all courter. My opponents would just say I have a good serve, good backhand and slice my forehand alot and will keep you off balance.

Last night I played a power player with a good forehand so for fun I just played his game and hit a number of forehand rip winners. He won 7-5 but I beat him 6-3, 7-6 playing my game last week. We are both strong 4.0s and learning from each other's styles as he is the power player and I am more of a junk baller and pusher but able to play a power game at times too. I need to add more power to get to 4.5 so it's nice playing that game with him. He needs to learn how to deal with spin, slice, slow pace, variety, staying mentally tough if he wants to move up to 4.5 so we are teaching each other and pushing each other in the right direction.

When I was 3.5 I was a pusher just running and getting balls back. Now I place the ball to the corners (and sometimes short but low and angled) and make my opponent do as much running as I do.

I hit some 80mph forehand winners last night and I wouldn't call those pusher shots!

He said he was an all-courter...

"pusher, junkballer, counter puncher, all courter, you are what you are. I have been called a pusher and junkballer but consider myself an all courter. "

Lumping pusher and junkballer into the same category as counterpuncher and all courter ?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Tell you what, if you hit the ball cleanly every single time and have proper strokes, have excellent control, and you are beating people, then who cares what you are? You are winning, and imo, you're doing it one of very many correct ways.

It's those people that hit the ball poorly every single time that are hell in the tennis community. You know, the ones that are just trying to do whatever they can just to keep the ball in play, and in the process, accidently hit a very crappy drop shot with tons of weird spin because of how much frame they used and how little string was involved. Go find another sport. God.

i say you're a junkballer. i'd like to see a junkballer vs. pusher matchup. care for a game randomname?

A good junk-baller > a good pusher

Junk-ballers can resort to pushing, while pushers have nothing else to fall back on.

A decent counter-puncher should be able to issue breadsticks and bagels to those types of players.

My understanding is that if you are using actual groundstrokes you are not a pusher, as they tend to just bat at the ball without any kind of follow-through motion. Also, do you try to construct points, or do you play 100% defense?
