Amelie Mauresmo: A shadow of last year?

After she won her first two slams last year, it seemed like she had finally realised her potential. However this year she's been nowhere near that same level...has she even won a single tournament? Lost in Berlin, Rome and her most recent tournament.

What's up with her? Anyone got a clue? Is Henin going to sleepwalk to another French just like last year?

All I know is she has the nicest butt in the WTA. It's a shame she doesn't like men.

Her game doesnt do much for me,. her shots just arnt penetrating enough and she doesnt hit very cleanly. When i saw her live at the beginning of last year she got absolutely spanked by a power player.

Last year was the fulfillment of long simmering potential. Many years as a contender culminating in a dream year of 2 slam titles and player of the year honors. Now with her main ambition fulfilled, and Henin out for blood after losing 3 slam finals last year, Serena returning to force, and the up and comers emerging, she will not attain such heights again.

she sat out almost 3 months with surgery and played only 3 tournaments since february.
can't blame her for that mate

Amelie won the diamond racquet for keeps after winning the Proximus Diamond Tournament in Antwerp Belgium in February. She won the tournament 3 years in a row beating Clijsters in the final. She also beat Clijsters in last year's final in front of her home crowd (very very noisy crowd as well). The site of her holding the diamond racquet is on her website.

She had her appendix removed just before Miami this year after complaining of stomach pains. So it will be a while before she gets back to her best. I saw her lose the Strasbourg final to Anabel Medina Garrigues in 3 sets yesterday.

LIke most, if not all French players, Amelie's best surface is grass - so defending her Wimbledon title will be a real indication of her form, if she could get to the semifinal then she still has a good future for the rest of the year.

Ironic isn't it that beside the French Open been played in Paris, down the years the likes of Pioline, Grosjean, Mauresmo, Guy Forget, Natalie Tauziat, Nicholas Escude and even young Gasquet have all posted better grass results. And also France defeated Australia in Australia in 2001 on grass when they had Rafter, Hewiit, Wayne Arthurs (not sure Phillipousis played that frinal). The French are shotmakers and prefer quicker surfaces.

I couldn't have said it any better.
They are all surface, all court players but like you said fast surfaces and grass they play better on indeed.
the nicest player on the WTA tour besides Clijsters.
no wonder they like and respect each other like that:D
too bad they don't talk about her charity work with the Curie Institute(the world's oldest and most important cancer research hospital/research center),this is major stuff she and they are doing there
