Amelie Mauresmo to coach Andy Murray

.....most probably (not the TTW poster , but the former pro)

Former World No.1 Chris Evert has articulated her desire of Murray creating history by signing up a female coach, after parting ways with Ivan Lendl a couple of months ago.

"If Andy is thinking about having a woman like Amelie or Martina, then good for him," Evert was quoted as saying by Mirror. "There is no reason why women cannot coach men and they have the experience to coach a top player. Why not?

"It has not been done before but that doesn’t mean it would not work, it just has not been tried. It is interesting that Amelie went to watch his entire match. I can’t think why she would do that."

Navratilova, who won 18 grand slam singles titles, said: "It would just be great to see a woman coaching a man.

"It has happened before but that was a mother, with Marat Safin, and of course Judy Murray as well."
"We haven't had a female really coaching a top man other than a family member," Navratilova told BBC Radio Five Live, "but I'm sure Andy will pick the right person, that he looks up to, that he respects, that he thinks will help him.

"It's not an easy process, especially when it comes down to very minute differences and adjustments that he needs to make in order to play better tennis, because he's already a grand slam champion."

On the day that Andy Murray played his first Grand Slam match since Ivan Lendl’s exit from his coaching box it was interesting to note the presence of a former Wimbledon champion seated several rows behind the support team that remains.
Amelie Mauresmo, the winner at SW19 in 2006, braved the chill wind to spend the whole match watching him defeat Kazakhstan’s Andrey Golubev 6-1, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and stayed to watch the on-court interview afterwards too.
She was only yards away from Murray’s girlfriend Kim Sears and, amid all the speculation about who will be brought in to replace Lendl, you could only wonder if she might become another significant woman in his life

According to one credible source Mauresmo and the British No 1 have been talking about the post, and while the only person who can make the choice is Murray himself, the idea of him bringing her on board in some capacity might not be totally fanciful.

Murray, who has always been prepared to think outside the tramlines, is on record as saying that he would consider a woman as his coach, which some thought might be a reference to Martina Navratilova.
Yet Mauresmo actually has experience of coaching a man. In 2010 she worked with the experienced French player Michael Llodra and she knows the pressures of being a world No 1, having also won the Australian Open.

This would be another break with the norm. He started a trend by hiring a legendary player with no coaching experience. That worked, and now he may hire a woman. This may start another trend.

Courier is what was said today by the British swing by swing commentator. You'll know when Murray releases a press release.

His mother is part of his coaching team.

Cheers

Would be awsome. Murray could learn how to properly smack some heavy forehands

For heaven's sake, stop talking about this as though it was a done deal. It isn't. The rumour started because Mauresmo was watching his match - but she says she was watching in her role as tv pundit.

We won't know who the new coach is until it is announced. Murray says he knows who he would like, but there is a lot of legal stuff to sort first. Until then obviously no statement can be made.

I love the fact that in the first article, it's said that it hasn't been done outside the nearest family before, whereas Mauresmo in fact has coached Llodra as evidenced by the second article...

Lol...at the amount of space this seems to be taking up here on TTW!

At the end of his first round match, he was being interviewed by Fabrice Santoro and Santoro asked Andy if he had had many offers to coach him. Andy shook his head and said, " Not many people seem to want to work with me!" He then asked Santoro if HE was interested and Fabrice gave him his card! :)

He was asked in an interview last night and he was quick to say no about this rumour and that everyone had a different name mentioned at him every week. I have nothing against him hiring a female coach and she is deff one with experience and could bring something. However at the end of day it is still his pick, she probably stayed at the game to let him know that she was interested in being the coach but that doesnt mean Murray has picked her, only that she might want to.

Both Murray and Mauresmo have denied this. It won't be Navratilova either. If he is hiring a female coach it will be someone else entirely.

First thing is for Andy to transition to a 2hbh into Amelie's b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l 1hbh!

Amelie! Amelie!

I don't see anything wrong with a woman coaching a male player. Women know the game and know the mental side of match play. But, I don't think Murray is the best candidate for a female coach unless she is a very dominate personality. I think one of the main things Lendl brought to Murray is a masculine attitude. Murray did not have a strong father and if he has a bunch of his buddies in the box, he whines like a 10 year old child while on court. Larry Stefanki or someone with a strong personality is what Murray needs. A female coach would have to be really strong and demand respect.

In recent memory, that would be another Andy- Andy Roddick and Connors.

And you know this because.......?

Murray and his brother were raised by their Father after their Mother left the family home, but hey - don't let that get in the way of your cod psychology.

But the gap between women's and men's tennis is too large.

basically this translates to random psychodabble

can't prove any of this just speculation

there's one thing that annoys me is armchair psychologists

Bjorn's too classy to get his hands dirty. But then again Edberg's too so who knows.

Stefan is classy, and overall a great guy but has a totally different game from Murray. Stefan is all about assault. Borg on the other hand, I've heard' was snorting cocain with other famous names during his playing days. :D Having said that, I think he could make Andy's game even more complete by mixing it up more. Björn was a beast at the baseline but also great at the net like Murray. They are a good combo IMO.

I have to question Björn's ability as a pedagogue though. He looks stoned all the time LOL.

How about a male coach who has coached only women ? Carlos Rodriguez is a great coach. I wonder if he could make the transition ?

Rumor has it Murray's been talking with fedace but can't seem to come to an agreement regarding the money.
In all seriousness I would like to see Cahill, stefanki, or courier.
It's too bad that Lendl couldn't stick around, he was a good fit for Murray.

Andy: "So, Larry, what shall we do first? Wimbledon's coming up and I was thinking-"

Larry: "Lose 10lbs."

Andy: "-we should probably... wait, lose 10lbs? What then?"

Larry: "..."

Larry: " Then we need to work on your all court game. You can't just keep relying on your monster serve and forehand you know!"
