An apology to Rafael Nadal Parera

Dear Rafa,

I owe you an apology. I have been a devoted fan from early in your career. I have defended you many times on various forums from the unfair attacks from the Federer fanatics who refused to acknowledge your greatness. But even I doubted you could defeat Djokovic yesterday. I had written off your chances as soon as the draw was made. In truth, I feared it may turn out to be a beatdown. To my shame, I chose not to watch as I didn't want to witness it. Only when I could bear it no longer did I start watching -at the start of the fourth set. I'm so glad I did as I saw one of the greatest performances of your career. I will never doubt you again. Your record total of slams and dominance of your two biggest rivals on the biggest stages should have made me wiser than to doubt you, at all. Please forgive me.

Your humble admirer,
Spencer Gore

I don't know why anyone doubted Rafa to beat Djoker at RG. I thought Rafa would win but at the same time a Djokovic win wasn't impossible. There are too many dynamics in a tennis match to be sure about the winner.

LMFAO

Spencer, there is nothing to apologise for my friend. Most of us did it because most of us have never seen a situation (until the big 3 that is) where mid 30s players are dominating the sport and we don't know which tournament could be their last. All we could do was go on present form leading up to the match, where clearly Djokovic looked better. Should we have known better? That it doesn't matter what form Rafa's opponent is in if Rafa himself is on form? Perhaps.

Even Nadal hinted in his press conference before the match that he doesn't know how long he could go on for and this could be his last RG.

There is no GOAT but Nadal has reached the highest peak and can still continue to climb one more step towards Immortality. Where no one else had.
Nadal has made the Myth not a matter of Legends since he has made it tangible for everyone.
:alien:

Nah, most of us were doubting too.
Nole's form was really high but Nadal's wasn't. Also, fighting a 5 set match against Felix was a negative factor before the match. The Spaniard, himself hinted that it could be his last match at FO too.
But hey, Carlos Moya was surprisingly optimistic.

it reflects u r an objective supporter, unlike those crybabies now hiding from their bs

I definitely thought he would lose, but not bc Novak is better, I felt Novak would want it more, and would have less pressure, AND would be more fresh physically. It literally looked like the reverse of all 3 of those things.

Djokovic had more pressure than Nadal. Last night was Djokovic's last chance to earn points at a slam until the French Open 2023. It was a must win for Djokovic, less so for Nadal. He already has the AO.

wow so many apologies in the last hours... its nice to apologice, but it is even nicer to learn the lesson and dont be a d*ck in the first place, im not talking about you but in general

U should have saw how I was standing clapping hard af during that tb lol. My cat was looking at me like :giggle: lmao. It reminded me of how I was at the end of Madrid 09
Yes it was insane I was clapping as well haven’t been this emotional at the end of the match since AO final I was live at! It’s insane he never ceases to amaze he is the Ali of tennis! It sort of sunk in that this journey as well with him is coming to an end soon and just reflecting on what an inspiration this guy is the embodiment of tenacity and determination!

You're right. Nadal is now creating his own legendary narrative. Something that was arguably missing up till this point.

I could not have said it better myself. I have watched Rafa his whole career and have always been awed by his tenacity, humbility, work ethic etc. I am a fan of quite a few tennis players but not emotionally connected as I am to the great Rafa Nadal. I was crying when he won the Australian Open this year, not only because I was happy he won but because of all he's been through and I have to say that he will always be my GOAT no matter what.

I had to laugh at this because this was exactly what I was doing during the tie-break except it was my husband who was looking at me like I was crazy....lol

Never really crossed my mind Nadal would lose to Djokovic. I would be rather concerned that he has to play two more matches.

Would you say cringier than "that tennis event in Australia" or "Earth's mightiest or whatever nonsense"?

I take it you also want to go onto my ignore list, sure thing buddy. And here we were having decent conversation these past few days, where I was trying to instill some faith in you about your guy having more than a fighting chance against Djokovic in that quarters. So it shall be my good friend, peace. Nothing personal, you are still cool, I just have zero tolerance to reading the same tired response to threads which are meant to be hyperbole over the top comic book stuff. Seeya ;) (y)

@Spencer Gore - I get your thread, and nothing wrong with it.

Thought he was going to lose too. Not because I'm not a fan (I contend I'm the biggest!), but because I'm a realist who tries to read the tea leaves objectively. It really felt the odds were stacked against our Rafa. But he pulled through. Which was unexpected, but not in the least shocking. He's done it a million times.

(I'm a bit worried about the semi. Not like the Novak match. More the normal butterflies that we all feel in the semis of a major for our fav.)

He's not the first one to reply to me and ask me this out of nowhere lol. Not only I don't see what that has to do with me but I don't see what's wrong and triggering about this humourous nickname used by some Djoko fans when they're enthusiastic about his performances.

I thought the same. Never bet against Nadal is the moral of the story. From a projected Agassi like career to GOAT along with a double career slam. That said, he still has 2 rounds to go
