Wow, great find, thanks. I have never heard of Louise Brough; what a player she must have been in her heyday, with that great, smooth service motion, and that willingness to attack the net at every opportunity. Wished we still had players like that today.
I also liked the way the players nonchalantly strolled in to the courts with just two rackets, no bags at all! They just took off their coats and were ready to play! Compare that to present-day players, lugging their "baggage", and their obsession with changing rackets every 9 games!

Actually NO. That isn't a "funky motion", it's absolutely great biomechanically, it only looks awkward b/c she's may be a bit over-emphasizing keeping a foot planted, as the rules of the day suggested. Particularly awkward looking when going for certain spins.

In terms of arm motion, shoulder motion, rhythm, timing, both of those motions are beautiful, and beat most of the women today.
