An interesting statistic about Zverev comparing Masters 1000 and slams.

It seems like his big technique weakness (2nd serve toss issues) shows up in Bestof5 matches when the pressure is greater and the mental stress is higher. I’ve seen him lose a few too many matches where he was the better player except for his second serve and double-fault issues. For example, he was outplaying Djokovic from the baseline in most of the long points at the AO this year, but his serve let him down when he was up a break in each of the last two sets.

Zverev can play well these days when he's the underdog and plays with house money but he's just so average to awful if he's the favorite in a match.

Zverev has to work too hard in slams. Even when he wins, the fact that it's at least 3 sets every round seems to get to him in the later stages.

True, but he still just seems too talented to never break through and win a slam or two. At age 24, he should still have quite a few chances to do so.

The worst is that Thiem choke in the AO final last year lol. Djokovic was practically ready to give up.
That's a myth around here.
Novak raised his level in the 4th, won the match because he regrouped, it wasn't a choke.

Thiem could have played better in sets 1 and 5, but was zoning in sets 2-4 until he finally had a dip midway in the 4th.

Zverev vs Top 10 at Masters tournaments: 13-9
Zverev vs Top 10 at Grand Slams: 0-9
This is a telling stat ,0-9 is a pretty pathetic record infact 1-8 would have been bad but atleast he would have won the slam last year. You cannot expect to win slams without beating top 10 opponent.

Absolutely. Novak practically about to give up an AO final, LOL. Yeah, right. :p

He stepped up big time from the 4th set on, tightened up his game, refused to miss, and asked tough questions of Thiem. If anything, Novak became even more stubborn in not wanting to give up the title.

It's a sign something is wrong with tennis, imo. The bo3 and ATP 1000 events should be warm ups and preparation for the slams. But it's not translating. Someone like Zverev can have these very different kinds of records. Maybe he's an outlier, though. But then you have Thiem, and he can't win an ATP 1000 but has a nice slam record. I think Kafelnikov never won an ATP 1000. I suppose it has always happened. Rios won ATP 1000s but never won slams.
