Ancic with Mono again?

Apparently Mario Ancic pulled out of the US Open because of a bout with mono. Nalbandian pulled out because he is still recovering from hip surgery.

Poor Mario. I sure hope he gets better soon. I have nothing but deep compassion for players who contract this devastating illness. It can surely wreck one's tennis career. Conversely, I can't help but despise unaffected players who use "mono" as an excuse for their embarrassing losses.

Sorry to hear. Too bad some people try to use this against other players, but we won't go there...

Again, hope he gets better. Just tough his prime years are being taken from him like this.

Yeah, using "sore throat" is a much better excuse for your losses. :-?

If Federer had serious mono he would have missed the Australian and took a few months off it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
Are you for real? He didn't know that his bad illness was mono until AFTER the Aus Open. And he did take a month and a half off afterwards with almost no training. Then he came back and lost to Roddick, Fish, Stepanek, Simon, Blake, etc., because, you know, he always loses to these guys when he healthy. :-?

Isner had mono before the French, hes in the semis this week of Indy. hes tired and has bad stamina but hes still around

the thing people dont understand about mono is this. Yes its kinda sucky when you have it. but its not like the flu or Pnuemonia. once its gone its not really gone. you have 2 months - 1 year depending on your immune system of intense energy loss and the inability to store energy. You become lethargic and some days picking up for head from the pillow seems hard while others you might feel fine.

Mono is prob one of the worst illnesses for a pro athlete to get.

How come tennis players always seem to be getting mono? I never hear of other pro athletes getting it. What's the deal?

Maybe because tennis is one of the few sports that has mixed men/women events and there must be a lot of hanky panky going around at these events? Just a guess. :)

I'm sure other mainstream professional athletes get plenty of 'tang.

I know he's relatively young and everything and still can play good tennis when he's well, but mono can really be a serious disease, as most of us know. I think he should hang his hat and quit testing the limit of aliveness. Obviously he is still vulnerable to it and the things which can go with it, and is possibly causing irreversible damage to various organs.

I hated to hear the reoccurence, but also questioned why he would have returned anyway. Sometimes, although you want to, it is advisible to do what is best for your health in the long run. There is life after tennis, but you have to stay alive to get there. With the shocking number of young pro which have died over the last couple of years....I would hate to see Mario added to that sad list.
