Andrés Gimeno has passed away

Ah sad news, Andres played his part in the epic battles that helped force tennis open. A champion whose achievements sadly aren't known by many. I remember back in the day Bobby used to argue that Gimeno was a better player than Emerson (not looking to start a debate on this), sounds like Laver thought a lot of him too. At least he managed to get on the winners role in the OE, he'll always be known as a FO champion.

Thoughts with his family.

He was the first of 6 Spanish men to win the French Open in the Open Era (the others being Bruguera, Moya, Costa, Ferrero, Nadal). He remains the oldest player ever to win the title (34 years and 9 months at the time).
