Andreescu: Superstar in progress

#1
Absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event, expect
to see Andreescu vault to the top of the WTA tour in the coming months.

She has all the necessary ingredients.

However, as good as she is, she still has a lot to learn!

This will come with maturity.

First and foremost she needs to control her emotions. She is
way too emotional on court!

She wears too much of her heart on court, giving away too much information
to her opponents.
And the tired 'racket smashing show' just has to go.

I think she has a very decent chance to take the match tomorrow against
Kerber. If she keeps her cool.

I agree, she has good variety in her games, and knows when to use drop shots, rather than just ballbashing. Her serve is also pretty decent for her height (5"7).
By the end of the year she should be at least in the top 20, and making it deep at slams I reckon.

No Deon. You are behind the times.
It isn't just a single event.

You really owe it to yourself to see how this young lady has:

a) climbed up in the rankings the past few months
b) played in her last few tournies
c) beaten some really big name players in the past few months
d) more game than almost any of the top WTA players now

People were saying that after Osaka won the 2018 U.S Open.
They quickly shut their traps when she followed that up with the 2019 A.O.
You can lead a horse to water...

Her forehand reminds me too much of mine, and that's not a good thing. When she gets tight she starts slicing and moonballing on that wing, which is more or less what I do. I will be rooting for her!

Anyone can beat anyone on the WTA; Mugaruza is an elite specimen and look at her. Let's get a genetically modified junior WTA girl with more ligaments in her shoulder who doesn't double fault and you have an interesting candidate, until then, yawn. Slow courts have killed women's tennis; that and that guy Serena.

She's too tired to beat Kerber today.

But I bet even Kerber is lucky to meet this red hot 18 year old in the final and not in the earlier rounds.

The interesting part is that Bianca still has a lot of growth margin -- lot of areas where she needs to and likely will achieve great improvement, both in her game and physically. The mind however is already ready, locked and cocked to embark on taking over the tour.

She should make friends with Osaka.

Sabelenka
Bencic
Yastremska

We heard it all before...
This one's different.
Watch her play for 5 minutes.
If you can't see it, no one can help you.

Would love to see Bianca play Serena.
Bianca wasn't even born when Serena had already won her first slam!
Bianca would blow Serena off the court, Osaka-style.

Nothing is that easy. Bianca has a great game with variety and power, but still needs some work on fitness and just general experience.

Watching her for the first time today. Impressive groundstrokes!

Her game reminds me of Agassi.

Andreescu Agassi!
She’s more a clone of Osaka and Hsieh. Tremendous touch and power in one package. Far more entertaining than the counterpuncher and baseline basher bots of most women’s tennis.

Not gonna beat Kerber this time.

However, easily the best young one I've seen in a long long time. She'll be no 1 by age 20 or 21 barring injury.

Close. But she won!

I picked her ftw. Amazing week! She thought she was very lucky to win her first match here. She got better and better after. Top10 material easily. Likely future multiple slams champ barring injury.

Andreescu Agassi!
I don't see it. Maybe her shoulder injury was sapping some of her power, but her BH was way too weak to compare her game to Andre. The only way she got any authority off that wing was when she threw her whole body into her shot.

An excellent match, one of the best WTA fights in recent memory, both dramatic and high quality. Tremendous game and grit from young Andreescu to take it as she has. The tour's her oyster if she keeps up focus and fitness.

Yeah, you probably didn't see too many of her other matches, this week and the past few months.
She's got a crackingly powerful BH.

Yastremska

We heard it all before...
From this list, only Ostapenko and Bencic won huge titles, right? Bencic got derailed by injuries - not quite her fault. Penko's win looked like a massive fluke the moment it happened, never thought she'd be a consistent contender. Andreescu looks as promising as Bencic did in Canada '15, if she can stay healthy she should rock the tour. Actually, if Belinda can finally stay healthy, I trust she'll rock the tour as well.

Lol! NONE of that matters for a WTA player. Here’s what matters:

—Is she blonde?
—Is she tall?
—If she’s not blonde, is she still good looking by most people’s standards?

If those things are met AND she’s good tennis, THEN she can be a superstar.

The other option is that she has to be a greatest ever type player and she
will get the same attention.

Her Todo list:

1. Control those emotions.
2. Deal with that hair!

Either shave it off or cut it short.
I've never seen a player man or woman
messing with their hair before serving each point, worried
that it will explode on them!

3. Making bad shot selections. Fix that!
4. Going for too much at times. Fix that!

1. Needs to chat with Shapo about hitting balls in fits of anger
2. 1 word: Braids
3. She has such a variety of shots it is pretty tough to make every decision the right one when trying different things. In general I thought she was excellent at keeping Kerber off balance and out of rhythm. She didn't try to blast through her like many ball bashers would.
4. She had to at the end to shorten points as her fitness was fading. She was far more judicious in the first set.

So to me, job number 1 is work a bit harder on the cardio.

Andreescu is a Romanian name. Smith, Jones, Black are Canadian names. :)
Cobălcescu, Costescu, Dimitrescu, Florescu, Giurescu are Romanian names. Notice anything they have in common? :)
