Andrew Castle Appreciation Thread

Legend
Andrew Castle is a British former tennis player turned commentator. Andrew reached a career high ranking of #80. He had a R3 best result at the USO which is equal to the best result of more heralded players such as Holger and Tsitsicrates. In addition, Andrew did not have the benefit of playing during the long Egg mug era. There was actual competition during his time on tour.

Andrew was recently subject to an unprovoked TTW slight concerning his tennis (not his broadcast) skills and this is not the first time I have noticed this happen. Following this latest slight there was an outpouring of support for Andrew and someone suggested that a thread be made in appreciation of Andrew. I was given the honor of starting it. I am sorry to report that despite having watched a lot of tennis back when Andrew was on tour I have never so much as seen him hit a single tennis ball. Sad.

Please recount any fond memories that you have watching Andrew play on tour — and if in person even better — as well as any positive encounters that you may have had with him when he was on tour. Please limit your comments to his time as a pro tennis player not his commentary..

The US Open 1987 3rd round Andrew Castle vs Boris Becker match is on youtube. Castle was a good player. He had a good serve, good attacking game. He took a set off Becker in this match which wasn't possible unless Castle was a good player. Andrew Castle's problem is he is in a commentary box with far more illustrious players like McEnroe, Cash and Henman, and people compare him to them unfavourably.
Yet the vast majority of people who pick up a racket can only dream of getting to Andrew Castle's standard.
