He hits different than most players today, very flat and early. Kind of like Davydenko or even Agassi.A ball bashing baseliner? Wow. This is new.
He does hit a flat ball which I like, but still seems like a typical next genner. He hits different than most players today, very flat and early. Kind of like Davydenko or even Agassi.
His transition game is a work in progress.Typical basher. Let's see if he has the variety of game to deal with Med.
Last I saw Rublev play he wouldn't come to net to save his life. He would pull guys 8' outside the alley with a forehand and still not come in.
Think he has a chance against Medvedev tomorrow? I think Daniil could be a bad matchup for him, he is too crafty and plays too deep in the court. He has pristine strokes, very fluid and efficient, which is why he hits such a massive ball with his scrawny frame. Lovely ballstriker.
His footwork is very underrated and impressive as well, and big part of why he as able to carry out this hyper-aggressive game style of taking the ball so early with big cuts. Not the fastest or most naturally athletic guy, but good quality of movement. Skips around kinda like an Eastern Euro boxer.

name me another player on tour that plays the same as Rublev -- including as aggressively and high-tempo from right on top of the baselineHe does hit a flat ball which I like, but still seems like a typical next genner.

Plenty, Khach and Thiem for starters.name me another player on tour that plays the same as Rublev -- including as aggressively and high-tempo from right on top of the baseline
If that is the big difference... then variety has really dwindled.from right on top of the baseline
But they don't play anything like Rublev other than in the superficial fact that they hit the ball hard.Plenty, Khach and Thiem for starters.
Good post and agree with all observations. To add, his dad is a former professional boxer and I also get that skipping vibe you mentioned in your post which shows he grew up around a boxing gym a bit maybe. He has pristine strokes, very fluid and efficient, which is why he hits such a massive ball with his scrawny frame. Lovely ballstriker.

I don’t think anyone is saying he is going to be as good as AgassiAgassi was much cleaner ball striker and had much more variety in play. Rublev is merely a ball basher that does not have anything else in his arsenal. Not even close to Andre in comparison. He could be happy if he takes a set against Med tomorrow.
I can see it. He takes everything early hard and flatHe reminds me of Seles.
Anyone get Seles vibes from his game?
Even his down the middle balls and rally balls have a sense of Selesian urgency. It's quite subtle, but he is always pressing the matter. I wonder if this ode to Seles is intentional. I cannot think of another male player who does that.I can see it. He takes everything early hard and flat
Yeah, as a huge fan of Andre back in the day, there is no comparison between he and Rublev -- in anything. Agassi stood far more inside the court, had a reasonably good slice and occasionally could approach the vet and volley adequately. His FH was near-GOAT levels all his career. . . There are Bjorn Borg-like elements to his preparation (footwork, and especially his body position on the coil) when watching the baseline view during the first 2:00 minutes. He has pristine strokes, very fluid and efficient, which is why he hits such a massive ball with his scrawny frame. Lovely ballstriker.

AA's slice was a bailout shot, he almost never used it in a rally. Of course I agree with FH comment.Yeah, as a huge fan of Andre back in the day, there is no comparison between he and Rublev -- in anything.
