“Fans online, after you hit yourself with a racquet 7 times, are quite worried about you. I know you’re saying it wasn’t as bad as Paris, but fans are quite worried. Is it something that’s on your mind? What people are seeing? They’re increasingly worried..”

Andrey: “I wouldn’t do it if I was able to hit the racquet on the floor. Because we’re not allowed to hit it on the grass.. so I don’t know.. at that moment I couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to let emotions out. But thanks. Everything is fine..”

“Will you go back and watch the video of things like that?”

Andrey: “I don’t watch those kind of videos. It’s not only about watching the videos. In general it’s about trying to improve yourself. It’s a process and it takes time.”

saw some comment that he should marry Danielle Collins and become the angry couple.
Andrey is married to Anastasija Homutova seen in his box, they've been together for 8 years say online twitterati!
her insta

anyway he says he's going thru a healing process and hopefully it works!

Watching a player bloodying himself with racquet is far more disturbing than smashing racquet into the grass.
The rule needs to be revisited for consistency. Better to let him whack the grass.

we see wholesome stuff from Andrey off court all the time, what a contrarian he is!
this is so funny, andrey saying he has 3 sisters and the boy[with one sister] looking horrified at what a plight that must be!!

Rublev reminds me more and more of Youzhy than Safin or Kafelnikov...

I'd rather watch him destroy rackets and win the slam than him attacking himself...

He is getting closer to not winning the slam because he is not focusing on the right things!!

hope he sorts things out in his mind. All the pain prob makes him a better tennis player tho in the times we live in. You can’t really have a Federer-esque vibe rn with how ****s been going down.

You say it right, firstly, what is happening in the world, and secondly, they also had a break of almost 2 years because of the pandemic...

But during the slam, he should keep his nerves in check, he is 26 years old and time is slowly starting to run away from him...

Lay the racket down for a while Andrey, everything is not "fine". Clearly some deep issues buried in there.
Completely agree. If it happened once and he pulled out the win and that’s how he copes then sure, it’s who he is as a player. But this is back to back slams now he’s doing it and he’s literally harming himself. ATP need to get involved or someone needs to help him because this is just not ok anymore.

He may like McEnroe who seemed to play better when he got emotional and expressive.
For others it's self-destructive...

Probably not, after he usually loses after outbursts of anger, I think it would be better if he redirected his anger into punches!

No tanking, only aggression, attack and keeping the opponent under pressure!!

He's ranked #6 with 2 titles this year

I think he's fine.

Yeah, good, but if he wants to win slam, he he needs to control himself and keep his nerves under control.!

Look at him, he has 26 old and and for now he was in the furthest QF slams,
If he doesn't show his best side at the Us Open, I don't know if he can win the slam?!

Zverev is also wise, but the clock is ticking on both...

Ain't that something? There's a holier than thou vibe permeating this forum it is sickening. I bet if we could take a peek at how some of them are in real life we would see some real pieces of work. Rublev has a temper. Plenty of good people like him in all walks of life. Hell some of you are breaking controllers playing video games. No one is calling you to get help or that you have some deeper issue. Rublev's issue may arise from people constantly telling him he has one. That's the real harm being done here.

Oh good. Let's not only pretend that what he's doing is perfectly normal, let's blame everyone else for his actions while we're at it.

Alejandro Tabilo has 2 titles this year too lol. Rublev is #6 as you said and he’s gone 3R French Open and 1R at Wimbledon losing to someone who had never won a main draw match before. Call a spade a spade. That’s embarrassing for a top 10 player. Dude is literally physically hurting himself on court and needs help.

If I saw someone I cared about doing what he’s doing to himself I would check in on them. He’s hurting himself. This isn’t “holier than thou”, it’s saying it’s not healthy. Sorry if you think that’s normal to hurt yourself like that. Hope you’d check in on a loved one if they were hurting themselves :(

If only I could make him quit tennis and end up a krokidil addict on the frontlines by ****posting on TTW

And Tsitsipas' trainer said he doesn't work hard enough, also he's outside the top 10.

Apathy is a clearer sign of depression than rage.

I owe you a sincere apology, I had no idea you were currently treating Rublev. Seems like you broke doctor/patient confidentiality though.

Board-certified..don't make that mistake again
I must have misunderstood your comment. I thought I was agreeing with it but aight.

Well, he might say he's ok, but watching him beat himself with his racket like that was a little scary. I also recall him punching his racket to the point of busting his knuckles open and bleeding all over. He clearly has some issues, but you can't help someone who doesn't want it.

ATP needs to get involved?

lmao

I don't see why not. If you hit the racquet against an inanimate object you get a warning, but not if you hit yourself? Doesn't make much sense.
the issue is the fine. He doesn’t want to get fined or disqualified again so he just takes out anger in other ways. He says he’s okay, his team knows he is alright, end of story.

Maybe find better ways to work out anger than to hurt yourself? No?

Maybe you think that’s normal, I don’t.

Apparently it’s normal according to many people here! Hurting yourself til you bleed is apparently ok.

One of the hardest lessons I ever learned was that it’s impossible to help someone who doesn’t want help.

Rublev clearly doesn’t believe his behavior is a problem, and this is the result.

Do you think people throwing controllers against the wall when they play video games have a problem? Rublev is playing a game with millions of dollars on the line a game in which he trains for every day, his whole life. Does he have a temper? Sure but that's about it. Until i hear something about this extending beyond the court then i will chalk it up to competitve spirit and that's it.

At least he didn't kick a sign, hurt himself, and retire w a foot injury up two sets to love (French player at the FO this year). He was able to keep playing.

Ruble's demeanor off court is very happy and likeable. He's always game to play whichever games ATP channel is having the players play. It's obvious he's ultra competitive, and he's right that it's a long process to change. It doesn't happen overnight. I wish him the best.

I definitely think the sorts of people who punch walls and break controllers have a problem to a degree, yeah. I think people who fail to control their anger are dangerous and need to be aware of it.

Throwing controllers is not okay. Rublev needs food therapy, bit he needs to first admit that what he's doing is not okay.

Who are you to say it isn't okay. They're not endangering anyone as far as i know. Plenty of highly functional people have a temper problem especially when competing. If that's where it stops which for Rublev appears to be the case then there is zero problem. Id rather have a guy throw his racket when frustrated than dealing with liars and backstabbers but for some reason we rarely refer to those kind of people as having issues. All in all no one is perfect as long as there's no innocent victims due to their behavior we shouldn't judge too much. Him screaming to line judge was a much bigger problem IMO.

I am guessing you struggle with anger too but are in denial. I'm sorry, I hope one day you can see that it's not a good way to live. Been there.

I can't imagine living with someone who throws stuff around in anger over trivial things like video games. That is not a livable situation, imo. I would dip so fast it's not even funny. Not putting up with explosive anger like that, as it is in no way healthy behavior.
