I mean he's lost 4 on the bounce and now he's talking up winning Wimbledon?

Eurosport Article

Former world No. 1 Andy Murray has spent much of the last five years on the fringes of top-level professional tennis and is once again struggling with his form. However the experienced Scot is preparing hard for the upcoming French Open at Roland-Garros, and he intends to compete at Wimbledon this year with ambitions of perhaps winning the Grand Slam once more.

Andy Murray believes that he could yet challenge for another Wimbledon title.
The former world No. 1 has two Wimbledon titles to his name, winning the first in 2013 and the second three years later.
However, at 35 he is currently ranked No. 52 and has not threatened winning a Grand Slam since major hip surgery in 2018, with hip problems affecting him in the preceding years.

The veteran has lost his last four matches, but has signed up for an event in Bordeaux as well as the Madrid Open in order to take perhaps his last tilt at Roland-Garros in Paris.
He lost 6-2 7-6 to Andrea Vavassori on Thursday in Madrid, and before then to Alex de Minaur in Monte-Carlo, but despite his on-court struggles he is guided by his fitness ahead of the French Open..
He told the press: “I would like to play, just purely because I don’t know if I’ll get another opportunity to play again.

“Whilst I feel fit and healthy, I would like to give it a go.”

He then revealed that he believes a win at Wimbledon is not impossible, even if it sounds unlikely.
He continued: “I also have ambitions of, you know, competing for Wimbledon titles and that sort of stuff, and I know that sitting here today that probably doesn’t sound realistic, but I do believe that that’s a possibility. I obviously want to do the right thing there.
“The experiences I have had when I have won Wimbledon has been in 2013 when I didn’t play the French Open and won, and 2016 I had my best French Open and won Wimbledon. It didn’t have an impact necessarily.

“It’s impossible to say what the right thing to do is, but obviously it’s a Grand Slam. I would like the opportunity to play.”

he'll need a huge stroke of luck to even have a tiny % to reach later stages..
unless he knows something we don't
He's upgraded his metal hip;

Well, give it your best shot Andy, otherwise why are you playing? Unfortunately for him, his slam winning days are behind him now and have been since his hip surgery. I would like him to end his career at Wimbledon though whatever year that may be.

His Wimbledon appearances the last few years have basically been exhibition matches imho, and I'm fine with that.

I'd do back flips if he managed to win another Wimbledon, but it would be another nail in the men's tennis coffin if a noticeably slower 36 year old with a metal hip managed to do better than a bunch of guys in their twenties.

I felt the same when Federer won in 2017 - elated for him but disappointed at everyone else.

Well, Federer's level in 2017, especially the first few months was insane. Murray though is not quite Federer.

I suppose to be fair to Andy, he was probably robbed of a lot of titles because of his hip injury, given his record prior to it, and he then defied the odds by recovering enough to be able to play tour level tennis again. You don’t put yourself through that battle unless you believe there could be rewards at the end of it. At his age he knows he has very little time left now so he isn’t going to throw away all the work he has put in to walk away until he has to. Physically he is strong and mentally it’s impossible to argue he doesn’t have the will. If he can find his form then he is more than capable of challenging the top players. Good luck to him even though I really struggle to see it happening.

Look, I know the Kool-aid tastes good when you're a mega fan. I was convinced Nishikori would win USO one year and Del po would win another one and Safin would, etc.
But metal hip Muzzah comeback peaked earlier this year. Now the only way is down.

Love the spirit but we all know flying pigs are a more realistic possibility. He may be feeling fit and healthy but his ability to play has declined drastically even since last year as his woeful results have shown so far this season.

Hope he goes down fighting of course but this should really be his last season on tour.

Help me Andy Murray, you’re my only hope! Can he save tennis ? They should draw him with Djokovic in first 2-3 rounds, would be a good match.

Who knows, he might have a small chance with an easy draw + the other side of the draw collapsing. (like 2016)
He's letting Wimbledon organizers know he's ready in case they want to give him a helping hand.

In doubles he could have a chance, with the right partner.

In singles only if several miracles and a lucky draw happen
