Andy Murray is a feminist his mother raised him well!

Andy Murray is amazing he is such a sensitive, intelligent young man. My respect for Andy has increased so much. This is amazing, Andy hiring Amelie Mauresmo to be his coach. Andy has always praised women tennis and he pays close attention to the WTA. Now Andy hires a former women champion my favorite player Amelie Mauresmo! This is amazing! I knew Andy was a feminist he clearly respects women. This is a huge deal Andy is an elite male tennis player and he respects Amelie so much he gave her this opportunity. Nice to see more male feminists like Andy Murray do exist.

Hahahahahaha

When Andy hired the real Amelie.

I thought of you.

Murray hired her because he sees that she has the tools to bring a new dimension to his game and I agree with him.

When she worked with Bartoli last year at Wimbledon Marion won without dropping a set!!!

It doesn't make him a feminist.

It also doesn't make him gay- just to save you the effort of creating that thread in the future.

Is this the Andy Murray who felt a need to say 4 years ago that the top woman player could not beat any man in the top 1000 rankings? He was probably right, but needing to point that out is possibly not the hallmark of a feminist.

Employing a female does not make one a feminist or otherwise. He just chose who he thought was the best of the available options.

Wrong choice: she has a 1 handed BH.

I also don't think that a woman can bridge the gap between men's and women's tennis and offer coaching to a high-level man. Of course, you could cite Bollitierri as an example of a 3.5 player who coached top men, but he is part of an academy infrastructure and got hold of his initial students when they were juniors.

But it is good of Murray to give a woman a chance. Who knows it may start a trend. Federer might hire Hingis.

Perhaps Amelie can teach Murray how to volley.

Seriously though what on earth is Mauresmo doing with a grinder?

I don't see what the big deal is (in terms of negativity), a coach is there for strategy mostly a woman will be just as good as a bloke in this regard.

I think it just makes him smart. There are plenty of male coaches who are too old or too out of shape to do anything physical with their charges. And there are plenty of women with the same analytic abilities as men. I'll be rooting for Muzza extra hard this July 4th weekend

Good to see you've moved on from calling him an ugly person with an ugly game.

hehe, still fuming about Nadal winning eh? Just imagine how mad you'll be win he gets to 18 ;)

I think Nadal can win 3 more RGs and at least 2 more non-RG Slams. 1 AO and 1 USO would be the most likely. Although another Wimbledon isn't out of the question. He probably will play for another 5 years.

Everyone who believes that women are not second class citizens and should have equal rights is a feminist. Andy's shown plenty of respect for women over the years, so he didn't need this appointment to prove he's a feminist, and I'd like to think his dad deserves just as much credit as his mum for not bringing him up a sexist git. Clearly, his mum is very influential, but there's loads of men who claim to adore their mothers, but have a very sexist attitude to other women.

Lets not get too excited about all this coaching business. Andy has simply brought her on for the grass court swing on a trial basis.

“No, it’s just for the grass-court season. It’s quite a high-pressure situation in the next few weeks. I can get a good idea if it will work long-term or not.”

If it works out: Brilliant! If not, no bad feelings and Andy will move on to other coaching prospects.

Coaches at the elite level, irrespective of gender, are never hired to be hitting partners.

In all seriousness, what's Uncle Toni? A 4.5?:-?

it doesn't make him a feminist but it shows that he respects womens tennis and takes women seriously.

there are many sexist jocks in the ATP who think womens tennis is garbage, women are overpaid and other stuff.

Andy Murray is a feminist he is a rare straight man he is one of the few men supporting women tennis. This is a huge endorsement of the WTA Tour by hiring Amelie.

Sadly, you make claims that don't necessarily have merit.

Very scanty info is used when you make claims....

I don't know if Murray is a feminist but it's clear the OP is a sexist. Suggesting that his attitude towards women is a result of how his mother raised him is at least ignorant and probably sexist. A male's attitude towards women is far more dependent on the attitude he perceives in his father than on anything his mother could say or teach. That his parents separated and eventually divorced would not change this fact.

You know its funny because Andy Murray was raised mostly by his father. Him and his brother lived with their Dad while his mother moved out.

OP never does research though.

You're right that Andy and his brother stayed with their Dad while his mother moved out but you're incorrect to say that he was raised mostly by his father. Andy's Mom stayed very very involved in the boys' lives and spent a great deal of time with them even though she wasn't living with them.

I think credit should be given to both Mom and Dad because they appear to have handled what can often be a traumatic situation very well and both guys seem to be well adjusted and Mom and Dad are very supportive of both of them. Judy gets more attention because of her position in British tennis and she's not shy about the media but his dad has been at most of Andy's (and Jamie's) matches too but doesn't get shown on tv.
