Andy Murray withdraws from Brisbane, considers hip surgery

sad news.

one has to think that this all started when Murray decided to have back surgery after 2013, that many including his coach at the time Lendl thought was unnecessary. his movement was never the same after that and perhaps other parts of his body was compensating more.

at least Murray did what it took to make it to #1 and finally reach the pinnacle of the other Big 4 regarding that stat, which I feel is very important to Murray's legacy.

Can't be the best British player ever. Fred Perry was way more successful then Andy.

Yep, Fred retired with 8 Slam titles to his name including the CGS and 3 back to back Wimbledons. Still unsurpassed by any British player before or since. Andy has come by far the closest though!

You can't compare the level of athletes from then to now. In every single sport, the modern athletes would crush their great grandparents generation.
Well he's better than Henman. But he has about the same amount of longevity as Henman it seems.

Novak Djokovic :

“Andy, thank you for genuinely sharing your thoughts and emotions with everyone,” Djokovic wrote.

“I can imagine how bad it feels.

“We all send you support and strength to get through [sic] this tough circumstances. God Bless.”

Any further word on his own tough circumstances?

He has sought advice from a number of medical sources but apparently no consensus from them on whether surgery would be the best option or not.
That sounds really strange to me. Is his injury so unique that there is no clear diagnosis? Could it be that the medial advice he's looking for is more to do with returning to the tour asap and not the best treatment for the ailment?

From his statement it sounded like even surgery might not help, or no guarantee.

EDIT: here is the relevant part "Surgery is also an option but the chances of a successful outcome are not as I high as I would like"

But you can be the guy to bridge "eras." There is always the opportunity to be the guy to push the envelope.

Even you don't believe what you wrote.

Nevermind.

The only thing that is important is to read what I write. After all I am writing it so that you and others like you read it and realize how fake you are.

The most important thing to me on TTW is supporting Rafa.

BBC : Murray has a torn labrum

The heartfelt and poignant post from Murray is the first time he has publicly voiced the anxiety that many others have felt for him and for his future in the game.

He will have approached this period of rehabilitation as meticulously, thoroughly and professionally as everything else in his career. And now - as he approaches six months away from the match court - he has discovered all too painfully that it has so far not been sufficient.

Murray is still very reluctant to opt for surgery, but he may come to the conclusion over the next few days that he has little alternative.

Murray has never addressed the precise nature of his hip problem. There is not one accepted diagnosis, but a very good source has told me Murray has a torn labrum. Any surgery would therefore be fraught with uncertainty and my understanding is that even if successful, the repair can sometimes have a limited shelf life.

Every condition is of course different, but Lleyton Hewitt had surgery on both hips for similar reasons in 2008 and 2010. He was never quite the same player again but still won three ATP titles after going under the knife for a second time.

Murray's other concern with surgery will be his extended absence from the sport. By July, he will have been missing for a whole year. However great a player, it is hugely challenging to rediscover that competitive edge after such a long break from the tour.

If that is the diagnosis, he would be out for at least until after Wimbledon.

Tough and his days at the top of the game are almost if not completely over.

8-)

That's something some of the skeptics about the term 'Big 4' need to be reminded of now and again!
Exactly, that and Murray didn't reach his previous form at least until 2015 after the surgery! Without the injuries it's really a who knows for Murray.

British tennis was reeling this morning after Johanna Konta withdrew from her Brisbane quarter-final with an injury to her right hip – ironically the same area that has brought Andy Murray low.

English isn't my first language but wouldn't that be 'coincidentally' rather than 'ironically'? Irony would be if she commented that she was lucky not to have Murray's hip problems the day before this withdrawal.

Well spotted. Many foreigners have a better grasp of the English language than many British people.

You should tweet Simon Briggs.
