Not bad for a "one Slam Wonder"

Australian Open: 5 times
Wimbledon: 5 times
US Open: 7 times

In fact his 17 quarterfinal appearances is greater than 4 time Slam winner Jim Courier! (he made at least the qf 15 times).

Makes the quality of Federer's GS Finals wins seem much better when you consider those facts! We shouldn't just look at how many GS titles his opponents won when he's won most of them:D

And 17 Slams by Roddick is very impressive!

What did he do on clay? Squat.... Just like Sampras, roddick is squat on clay. You can't be noteworthy if you didnt do something on that surface.

That one final got Andy much more admiration than his 17 QF.

A top 10 player making 17 QF since 2001 is good and expected. This shows his consistency.
He reached 10 SF and 5 finals, which is not bad.

just out of curiosity, what is the record for the most consecutive QF's? and who has the most QF's in majors?

Roddick is a far more impressive player than some have suggested. He has had a much more consistently successful career than players like Ivanisevic, Krajicek, Rafter and Stich who are cited by Sampras fanboys as representing "great grass court competition." His main failing is that his game does not match up very well against Federer's. If not for Federer Roddick almost certainly would have won another three or four majors.

Think Connors has more. He had close to 30 in a row.

he had 27 in a row, from wimbledon 1973 to fo 1983, but he did play only twice @ AO and five times @ FO.
6x QF
8x SF (in a row!)
6x runner up
7x winner

overall 29

federer has 21 in a row and 25 overall

Seriously if it weren't for Federer, Hewitt and Roddick would have a few more grandslams each and Roddick probably another year or 2 as the worlds #1

NO IT DOESN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the top 10 players he's beaten consist of a gassed Ferrero, Ancic, Berdych and Murray, not impressive at all. How the hell is he getting to slam QF's??? Really how??

Courier was beating Edberg(2x), Sampras(2x), Agassi(4x), Stich(2x), Muster(4x twice on clay), Krajicek(2x one a walkover), Ivanisevic(2x) and Chang

So it doesn't make the quality of Fed's wins over Roddick seem better. Actually you just made it seem worse, and added more evidence to the lack of quality in this era. 17 slam QF by doing what?? Beating whom?? Good job. Great job??

Thanks for saving me hassle hon.

Calm down... You've already stated many times that you have no respect for this era and you're more than entitled to your own opinion. But what Roddick has done is an impressive accomplishment, he has beaten the only competition he could beat to reach those quarterfinals. Since a time machine is yet to be invented I would kindly ask you not to bash this era in every thread remotely concerning the quality of tennis or it's players .

It's not that I have no respect for this era I call a spade a spade, it is what it is. She equated Roddick to Courier in this regard......

...... I just brought a broader perspective.

If she's gonna compare Roddick to Courier in this regard, then compare Roddick to Courier. I just mentioned things I thought should be brought up. If it's gonna make Fed's ivictories over Roddick seem better, let's also consider what it took for Roddick to get. It's not just the destination, but let's aanalyse the journey as well. You can take from it what you will.

Jim Courier is my book the better player because 4 slams top 1. Roddick happened to have one category in which he is better than Courier and I give full props to Roddick for consistently making the quarters and being in the top 10 for so long. I will repeat again, Roddick made the only journey he could have made, it isn't his fault he wasn't born 20 years earlier. Like I said before, you have a right to your opinion, but I kindly ask you not to attack other people because they don't share it. Also, I think a lot of people already heard what you think about this era so it isn't necessary to repeat it in every thread.

Heard of a fellow by the name of Novak Djokovic?

Obviously a high-seeded player does not typically draw top 10 opponents prior to the quarterfinals in Slams. Roddick's primary difficulty consists in the fact that he has run into Federer 8 times in his 17 quarterfinal-or-better Slam runs; he has a very solid record against high-ranking opposition and fellow Slam winners not named Federer.
