Andy Appointed to Presidential Council

By Erica Quandt

Yesterday President George W. Bush appointed Andy to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for a two-year term. Andy is now one of twenty members who will advise the President through the Secretary of Health and Human Services about physical activity, fitness, and sports in America.

For 50 years, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has helped individuals, schools, communities, businesses, and organizations promote healthy lifestyles. President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the President’s Council on Youth Fitness in 1956 to encourage America’s youth to make fitness a priority. The Council later became the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, including people of all ages and abilities and promoting fitness through sports and games.

In a proclamation last week, President Bush also declared May as the National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. For more information on The Council on Physical Fitness and Sports visit www.fitness.gov.

Check back to Ar.com for more of Andy’s activities at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I think he was an obvious choice because he is from Texas (though trains in Florida mostly) and the elder Bush is a big tennis fan (used to watch Don Budge and even now shows up to play at Chrissie's charities).

Or it could be that once Federer was appointed Unicef ambassador, Andy felt the need to do something diplomatic.

Oh oh, I remembered something - during a charity tournament, elder Mrs. Bush was asked whether Andy was a prospective match for one of the two twins (her grandkids).

Everything is falling into place now.

Anybody see the White House Correspondents Dinner Saturday night? LMAO! :)

Andy won't have much to say as the other representatives who are in bigger sports will hog all the input.

Correspondants dinner was awesome, I have always been a huge Colbert fan, watch it every night.

Good for Andy. He is a very marketable guy.

Now, Andy can partner with Sean Williams(a movie actor) tp play doubles against President Bush parntered with Patrick Mac. A game of twins to twins.

Stephen Colbert is going to bed dead very soon, most likely. God that awkwardness was ****ING HILARIOUS.

I couldn't believe that finally someone had the balls to speak his mind to the president and his minions. Kudos to Steven. Whatever happened to the freedom of press anyway? Bush's aides are getting charged with crimes, the war took more than 2500 american lives and everyone acts like nothing's happening. WTF? On the offnote, Roddick is where he belongs. Everyone's mostly white and obscenely rich in that administration.

Almost every politician in D.C. is very rich, and white men tend to be more rich, been like that since the beginning of US history.

Bush family loves tennis. There were a couple of times Condee Rice came to me and asked for tennis cure because Bush and Junior Bush were coming the Farm to join the National Secuity Forum and play tennis. I was doing some research with William Perry and had to consult with Condi bcoz she was an expert in Russia. Condi asked not to win, but not to lose much, either. One or two points would be the best. It is totally politics of tennis. So she practiced how to control the competition pace. I had to be a rescue player if Condi's pair were losing to much. And Condi knew when to hit balls wild if they were leading too far. That way, both sides were in much fun to play. In the middle of game, they applied tennis strategies to national secuity issues. Joking like " right in Kremlin corner, kick serve for Beijing, lob Baghdad, etc. " Everybody laughed to death. After that, they chatted around the court corner while we were separated by secuity guards. Seems I hearded they were going to bomb some countries? Whatever, none of my business. But that private coaching gave me a full pocket. Go............od ! The best thing is I know the Bushes really like tennis. They fighted for every point. This is classified. Don't tell others.

You'd think Agassi would be chosen instead.

Not surprised he wasn't. His political affiliations are opposite. This administration is very narrow-minded about such things, even for nominal positions.

Everyone brainwashes Roddick into believing the Bush rats are World Peace heroes. It's funny that Saturday Night Live had a comedy sketch about president superheroes in skin tight costumes. It didin't bother Roddick one bit because he was convinced to host SNL and his life went downhill afterwards.

Barbara pushed her way through the room a few years ago to ask Roddick a
sk anky. rehearsed, smarmy question about whether he needed a girlfriend.
He fell for her damn charm. Sad to see Roddick sink to the level of his trash Republican idiot parents and friends.
At his charity event, he told Tennis Channel that losses meant nothing when life was so great! Then, why did he let his mother force him to play after his brother failed miserably too? Roddick likes to look pathetic as parasitic people promote their propaganda of unselfish, phoney love!

This is great for Andy, and possibly American Tennis aswell. I cant belive all of you US'ers complain about the state of us tennis now you have the top us player in a position where he can promote tennis MORE and you complain i mean C'mon

From the ATP site:

Roddick Embraces Presidential Appointment

American No. 1 Andy Roddick has been appointed to President George W. Bush's President's Council of Sports and Fitness.

The purpose of the Council is "to recommend programs to the President and Secretary of Health and Human Services, which will encourage nationwide participation in physical fitness, physical activity and sports in America. Through its programs and partnership with the public, private and non-private sectors, the Council serves as a catalyst to promote health, physical activity, fitness and enjoyment for people of all ages, background and abilities."

Roddick said: "It's a great honor to be recognized in this way. When I was in school, I actually won the Presidential Fitness Award, and it was something I was always proud of. I hope kids look at this and know how important it is to be active and get excersise. Tennis is a great way to have a lot of fun and be healthy."

Other athletes invited to serve two-year terms on the Council include 1984 Olympic women's gymnastic Gold Medal winner Mary Lou Retton and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

Andy is from Nebraska, spent a few years in Texas, grew up in Boca and recently moved back to Austin. He splits his training time between Fl and TX, but now that his coach also lives in TX, I suspect he'll be home much more often now.

Jonny F, the President's Fitness Council is really kind of useless, just a photo op mostly. They might meet twice a year for some lame promotion of physical activity, but it amounts to almost nothing in comparison to the McDonalds ads bombarding us everyday.

And Stephen Colbert RULES!!!!!!!!!!!
