Angell TC95

Whats your personal opinion on the Angell TC95 racket, and the Angell Tennis Co. as a whole. I have heard good things from them especially at tennisnerd.net, including that fact that their rackets are designed by the guy responsible for most of Dunlop's best rackets.

I used my TC95 for a good year now and it still served me well into not switching to another racket. Its much more powerful than a typical 95 square inch racket, but the specs I chosen makes it something I can rely on most of the time. The flexibility to customize your racket to your specifications is a plus too as you have to spec what you want from a racket.

I have used quite a few Angells and IMO their V3 custom line is a little dated in feel but instead would go for one of the K series frames which are fantastic and the ASL range. These two new ranges are bang up do date. The K7 Lime for instance I would put it up with one of the best releases fior 2019.

Decent playing frames but build quality is meh, especially the pallets and grommets which seem to be made from wet tissues and fall apart quickly.

Isnt the Angells too open in their 16x19 pattern? It seems they are much more open than most control-oriented frames. And that would mean less control, and a period of adaptation

By definition a 16x19 is an open pattern of course but I’m not sure what you mean by too open? Do you mean more open then the average 16x19? Well it depends, the new Blade 16x19 as an example is a bit tighter and an Aero pro or Clash is more open

Angell makes some excellent quality racquets coupled with customization. You can’t really demo them so needs a person who is clear on what works for him. TC95 with its D beam design as well as the TC100 are fantastic frames and do everything with a level of excellence and authority.

Thanks for the advice

When I write "too open" I mean more open than a normal 16x19. If one looks at the professionals, very many of them use 18x20. I think control (i.e a tighter string pattern) often might be underrated.

This is why I dont really understand why many Angell racquets have open patterns, instead of "normal spaced" 16x19 patterns.

When I hit the TC95 16x19, a friend (advanced player) commented more than once that it was the most open 16x19 he'd ever seen. You're not wrong.

I have to chime in the Angell makes high quality racquets. It's all matter of personal preference but I like the K7 Red. Excellent feel, ball pocketing, spin, decent power and good control.

would you say better quality than the best mainstream brand name racquets?

I would say that Angell has a very diverse racquet line and the quality control is better than most mainstream competitors. Paul Angell is a great business man and will never stear you the wrong way when asking for advice.

I use the Angell TC 95 18x20 V3. Love it. Got the 27.25 310 gr, 315 balence. Good power and control. Have the 70 ra version but still soft.

Yes the Angell 16x19 is a very open pattern in the sense that it has 6 mains in the throat; most 16x19s have 8.

I got my first TC100 16x19 3 years ago and never looked at another racquet since.

Right on. I think I'll get 18x20. Like is it more open than a typical aeropro? Or pure aero? Hitting with a 28" pure drive now temporarily and I break 16g strings in 3 hits. Which is so early. I usually get about 5-6 but this is my first 28".

Anyway, I can't be stringing so often. So I'll go with 18*20 if I get an Angell I think.

A friend played with the PA and broke strings every hour which is unreal. The Angell 16x19 is more closed given it's got the more oval shaped head rather than the rounder head of the PA.

I see. So you'd say the PA is definitely more open than the 95 tc Angell? I still might go 18x20

Kinda bothersome you can't see a strung version of these rackets from the website or really any detail shots of the grommets either.

It's been a while but pretty sure. The string spacings on the PA look like boxes on a checkers board.

Also the angell is an oval shaped head whereas the PA is more round. You might want to look through the angell thread to find pics of tc95s

I see. I'm hitting with a pure drive anyway which is a little more dense in the center but I'm still breaking that very quickly so I think 18*20 will be my go to anyway.

And I kinda like that you can string in the 40s with that denser pattern. Seems more comfortable, in a way, without feeling loose.

Recently got TC95 and is my primary racquet now; was playing with the 360+ Prestiges, PK Q+5 Pro, which are also really good.

Open 16x19 mentioned in this thread is actually working well for me; best part of TC95 seems to be the point-and- shoot nature of this racquet for me. Noticed the same in the old Pure Strike VS ...and the slices and serves are excellent with TC95!!

This is a post from a while back…but just noticed it…do you (or did you, if you’re playing with a different racquet) customize the K7 Red?
And have you played the K7 Lime? if so, any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks much!

Yes, I did customize the K7 Red with 3 grams total at 3 and 9 along counter balancing at the handle. I have not played with the K7 Lime. I no longer play with the K7 Red.

love the TC95 and its been my all time favorite stick for many tears now.

Just curious how the TC95 would compare to Yonex Vcore 95? particularly on the serve and for the one handed BH.

Ceteris paribus: better power, better plow, better feel, less control (better serve, one hander probably the Yonex). Imo

Do they still sell 70ra tc95?
No only 63 now, earlier they had both options. They actually had both back from the Vantage days.
I played pretty much all Vantage options, as I was signed back then and I Can confirm its still the same mold and layup used now.
Im still in love with Bastcore 20 after more than a decade, its the same mold but different layup, 50ra unstrung.
