Angell TC97 18x20

Will we see one? I find 18x20 to be a pattern I like more than 16x19. Plenty of spin and more control. Plus, I like the angle of ball rebound.

So?

More string patterns is a good idea, especially for a custom racquet company.

I would personally like to see a spin-effect pattern: 16X16 perhaps.

I don't see why not having the same pattern flexibility as in the TC95.
Perhaps Paul would like to chip in.
Maybe he does not want to mix the realms of the two with the specs too similar. 66RA 97inch frame with 18x20 pattern would essentially be my discontinued Biomimetic 300 Tour, albeit foam filled and better crafted.

It's more about the box beam and stiffness rating. For me TC97 is ideal, I just wish there was 18x20 option.
That's right. It's the beam box that's of interes to me too.

I don't see why it would not come in 18x20. It's just a matter of drilling and grommets.

And it would be a direct competitor to Head pro-stock...

Head Pro Stock are not box beam are they? The TC95 is probably more similar to Head Pro Stock. Not a competitor though as Pro Stocks are not sold in the open market.

Paul mentioned to me last year that another sting pattern for the TC97 will probably be in the works if it goes over well.

Im a big fan of 16x20 but I suspect it would have to be 18x20

I could see the TC100 with a spin effect pattern possibly but Angell is a small operation its best that he concentrate on his core customers.

Or come up with a convertible pattern similar to some Head models.

As a current user of the PS97s (18x17), I feel an 18x18 TC97 with all the weighting options would be a genuinely unique world-beater/game changer. The Dimitrov is weighted sillily; would benefit from more weight at 3 and 9 o'clock but you can't add it because you already have to add a bunch of weight to the handle to get it to usable head lightness. I have a TC 95 that's 16x19, just a bit too open a pattern, just a bit too small a head. If the tooling can possibly pay off, Angel should try to make this in-between string pattern work. There are a lot of players who can't use 16x19 pattern to their full advantage because it would require playing with a full bed of poly and restringing constantly. The closed patterns and thin beams still offer way better control over the course of the string life of a set of Multifilaments or synth guts. Most club players can't afford/be bothered/physically handle the Poly Commitment, and so just have their games vacillate between being great for two hours, okay for five more, and then progressively worse for weeks until they finally restring.

As amusing and inventive as suggestions here may be, I'd like to point out that the original post talks about a frame that already is in production. While 18x20 option "request/suggestion" in TC97 is rather justified considered that the TC95 has the option, different head-sizes and string patterns are a bit far fetched and - as a result - a bit off topic.

It makes no sense to have 16x19 and 16x20.
18x20 is warranted though.

However, I guess that it's the success of the TC95 18x20 line that will help Paul decide wether to put money into a similar TC97 model.

It would be nice to know his intentions though.

He made it quite clear that if the TC97 was successful in the initial 66RA 16x19 release that another RA and stringing pattern would make sense to round out the customization options. He's definitely an engineer through and through so there is a certain logical/practical approach to his options.... which is what you get when an engineer is in charge and not the marketing department. No idea how long that could take though, small company serving a larger and larger pool of disaffected tennis players whom the racquet companies are ignoring.

Indeed, the TC97 is more like the Prestige rectangular box beam than the squarer cross section and harder 90 degree edge of say a PS85

No, it's not.
The TC95 is a very unforgiving racquet whereas most rec players should be able to just pick the 97 up and start playing, very easy to use.
The difference in terms of headsize between tc97 and tc95 is neglible -- I can't tell the difference when I put them on top of each other. Why do you say one is forgiving and the other is not? Can't be the head size....?

Just the way they play, regardless of head size. For whatever reason, the 97 plays significantly more forgiving.

yup i figured this would come... all those pt630 fans will be curious as to how this stacks up. I myself am still struggling with whether i should order an 18x20 tc95 or another 16x19.. gonna string up my igpmp to help me decide (i found that frame a tad too stiff but loved the control, Angell provides us with vexing options dont they?)

curious how this tc97 18x20 matches up against some H22's?

I think you'll prefer the 16x19, the difference in string spacing between the two patterns is more pronounced than you'd think due to a change in main skips (less on the 18x20 despite having more strings).

I've definitely gotten used to the 16 by 19... but I've been an 18 by 20 player for most of my life it's only been the last 4 years that I've really played 16 x 19

YAAAASSSSS super excited. Dang, this fall is gonna be hard on my wallet and elbows and wrists and needs...lotta racquets in my wheelhouse being released...but this is perhaps the most exciting and likely to be perfectable. PS 97s is too weird, Pure Aero VS is too stiff, reissued Pro Staff line will have egregiously poor quality control... but this might well be Perfect

I like it quite a lot. I'm tempted to customize it a bit straight away with leather grip and lead to bring it up to my SW spec range but I'm trying to be patient and give it a couple of months in stock form - 320g/10HL with synthetic grip. Slices(probably my biggest weapon) and second serves(my most outstanding weakness) are exceptional, feel is downright sublime so it's only getting better from here on. It's strung with a prototype Angell string - a pentagonal polyester ( potential Halo 2) - which plays very nice in this frame.
