Ankle pain. Need advice from “TTW Docs”!

So 2 Saturdays ago I played for about 4 hours and the next day my Right Ankle on the top, near the where the top of the tongue of my shoe is, was very sore and made me limp some.

I played 2 times that week with it sore and then on Saturday I played 5.5 hours and it was really sore. I used a prescription anti inflammatory cream on it but it continued to get sore during the long session. My Achilles tendon started to hurt even.

3 Days later of icing and no playing and it still hurts. If I stretch my foot back toes towards my shin, my lower shin is tender all the way to where it attaches to the top of my foot.

Update: Seems to be my Inferior Extensor Retinaculum that is what is sore..

Well feet/ankles aren't my specialty so I can only give broad advice of rest/ice/compression/elevation for what sounds like a strain. Generally if it doesn't ease with warming up, it's probably injured and needs rest.

An ankle sprain for me is 6 weeks out and then play with a brace for a while. An ankle strain is one to two weeks out. If you don't do a good job of resting it, it will reinjure.

Very sorry to hear about your ankle and the pain you are suffering. I mean it!

However, I can not resist a stab at humor. Take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning to set up an appointment 3 months in the future.

Shalom

There are quite a few things that can cause pain on top of your foot including nerve problems ( from your s1, L5) and even perineal tendinitis.
