Another Disappearing Act: From Fame to Extinction in Two Months

Stefano Tsitsipas - I don't think he's won A SINGLE MATCH since his run at Montreal (was it Montreal?). Perhaps one match.
Hope it's 20-year-old temporary burnout.
Why are all the next gen hopefuls so flaky? Coric was beaten by CAMERON NORRIE (actually not a bad player, but ...) yesterday.
Milan will be a joke like it was last year. I hate the castrated scoring system anyway.
The awful prospect is of Note and Nadal, that horrible duo, going on and on and on because the Next Gen is too feeble to challenge them.

I thought this thread was about Murray!

In fact Cameron Norrie shows up what is wrong with Next Gen - he always plays as if the scoreline means nothing - he can be 5-1 down and he still plays as if he believes he can win the match. He was playing Ramos-Vinolas in the Davis Cup and even though RV won in the end you could see he was getting really frustrated by having to play points really hard when he was well ahead in the set.

If the Next Gen players could play with some of that attitude then some of the more talented might have a chance of really doing something but they just seem incapable. It's interesting that players like Norrie, Kevin Anderson and Isner have come from college tennis which apparently is fiercely competitive and pressurised. I wonder if that's proving a better background for making the most of your talent than just heading on to the pro tour where everyone gushes over you for a couple of wins and you're then left coping with the grind.

He won one match since his run at Rogers Cup.It was against Tommy Robredo at US Open. But yes they are so inconsistent. This is why people shouldnt hype Tsitsipas or other Next Gen players until they become consistent. His run at Rogers Cup was great but if he cant back it up it doesnt mean much.

It was torronto anyways...
Why they keep on changing venues b/w torronto and montreal?
ThaTs why I use canadian masters to avoid confusion

He has a curious vibe of trying to look wise, or wiser and different to his peers anyway. A bit of narcissistic. Maybe he’s too absorbed in himself?

But neither Tsitsipas or Coric have any true “fame,” or anything remotely close to it. Sure, we all know who they are because most people here follow tennis closely. But if you stopped 1,000 random people on the street and asked them who they are, it’s probable not one person could identify them (outside Greece or Croatia).

The highlight of Coric’s career is beating Fed to win Halle and Tsitsipas has no highlights. Their fame level is non-existent for good reason.

It's always been a tradition for each of the 2 biggest Canadian cities to host the Rogers Cup in the same year so they alternate the men's and women's events between them (1 city will host the men, the other the women and then switch around the following year).

What 20 year old has burnout? On the Shapo threads, it's speculated he may be "burned out" from bad coaching or mom issues and he's 19. Neither Fed or Rafa have ever evidenced any burnout and they've played 1000+ matches (well, Fed has) and been on tour for 15-20 years! These next gens all are pathetic compared to earlier generations.

Aha, the mega successful TTW posting community weighing in to kick a puppy.

I’m surprised these brilliant and accomplished people have the time to share their thoughts (almost 24/7) with us.

We should be so lucky!

Oh, I agree, and I like Tsitsipas. But we're discussing actual results in tennis and the concept of "fame."

Let's be patient with him.

His game needs a few more years to develop. Specifically, he has room for improvement on his serve. At 6'4" and with a live arm, he could have a monster serve in a couple of years with some good coaching (which he can now afford).

Some more free points on serve, and he'll be competing for Masters and GS with the best of them!

Sort of like saying, "aha the mega successful TTW posting community couldn't get one single game from Serena or Nole!"

True, but a totally pointless statement and having nothing to do with the convo. You can interject this sentiment into almost every thread here. If the criterion is, "none of you are as successful or famous as these guys!" then shut this place down, as well as any other Internet Forum. We don't have to be as rich as Federer to have an opinion on him, or anyone else in pro tennis.

I think some of us could get a game on Serena.

First of all, this sounds a tad hysterical. They're pathetic? How so. Except for about 7 players in all of history, most tennis players don't mature until they're in their 20s, and usually 22-23. Actually, Rafa has had burnout many times. I recall distinctly when his parents divorced he had to take time off for his 'well-being'. And, good for him, for acknowledging that. You don't know if either of them have ever felt burnout if they've never said, but other players sure have. Djokovic just admitted to this. I don't recall anyone saying Shapo is burned out, but rather coping with the loss of his coach. The idea of "mom" issues was a rumour and silly speculation. We have no evidence to support that. So, why not calm down and take some deep breaths.

Actually, he has won matches, just not a lot of them. The interesting thing about Stefanos is that he had a terrible beginning to his year. I remember the match he played against Shapo in R1 of the AO. Poor play at best until the third set when it was a done deal. Then, he was fantastic during the clay court season, okay on grass and once again fantastic in the HC season, except at the USO. After that, he's been quite ordinary again. Why? He's only 20 years old! He's still developing his game, and he's still learning. I'm of the opinion that the tennis season is far too long. To play at the top of your game week in and week out for almost 10 months requires a herculean effort. So, let's see how he does in 2-3 years. I think we'll see quite a few titles by then.

Still confusing..
Just like how murygoat often termed as either scotish superstar or british no.1

So in the extremely physical game that today's tennis is, 20 year olds are struggling to be consistent? Wow! Who would have thought....

Um, every time I see his name I think about female breast :). It's just an association. Too many titties in his last name. its, titts, pass ... passing titties. Tittiepass ... not even sure how to pronounce or spell properly his last name, and I've heard it so many times.

I know, great contribution in this thread by me, lol ...

So some are ready to write Tsitsipas off already? Let me educate you a little with some facts from the not-too-distant past:
This is Tsitsipas's 3rd year as a pro. In his first year, he spent most of his time playing futures and a few challengers. In his 2nd, it was mostly challengers and some main tour events, during which he compiled a 4-10 record. In this, his 3rd year, his record is 31-23, including the most recent loss the other day. At almost exactly the same point in his career (late September, in his 3rd year), Roger Federer had a record (for 2000) of 26-24 with no titles.

Tsit has also proved he can hang with tough competition, beating the likes of Thiem, Djok, Zverev, and Anderson in 2018.

It is disappointing how he’s been completely unable to back up his results in Canada. However, there has only been a few tournaments since then. If he continues to screw up through the end of the year, then we may have something to talk about.

Do you get confused about his fellow NextGen player Alexander Bublik? Please be advised to keep your tongue firmly inside your lips when in the company of females while watching young Alexander play.

His match count is up in the 70's this year and in the high 80's in 2017. A lot of court time and obviously a lot of travel fatigue associated with that heavy schedule.

Cincinnati was right after two deep runs at Washington and Toronto AND he drew Goffin 1R. USO was not an easy 2R match with Medvedev fresh off his good play in his title run at W/S.

The latest two defeats are the ones to be concerned about. Neither Berankis or Herbert have cracked top 50 in much longer careers. Their sole shared advantage is they played into the 2R matchup and knew the conditions from match play.

These two 250's were Tsits' first taste of top seeding and his one other 1R bye experience resulted in a narrow 3-set 2R win vs Donaldson at Washington. He will need to get up to speed on how to better handle that scenario in the future.

How does OP and others (you know who you are!) feel about their comments in this thread now?

I have the same problems with this lady:

Valentina Lisitsa

She's all over the Internet, but I always reverse the S and T and end up with "La ****". :D
