Funny how you are able to come up with the most inane, niche sabremetrics but somehow can't comprehend that 20>19>Third place guy
Not everything is about the slam count.

If a player in 2020 and 2021 wins all Slams and several Masters beating the Big3 in all finals he would be the GOAT for me, even if he's not the Slam record holder.

This is what Djokovic did, to a less extent. Domination of great opponents.

This is quite interesting statistics, shows a lot for those who know tennis...
Lol he really is running out lately. It was funny for a second, now just sad 8-B
No, you are one of the poorest posters here, a lot of posting that actually has little to do with tennis. For me its not sad, or funny, its mostly annoying...

2011 Djokovic winning AO, WI, UO, Rome and Madrid beating the defending champions Nadal and Federer.

What an incredible year

Beating defending slam champion so many times... Good job Mr Djokovic (y)

Federer 2001, Sampras... :-D
In 20 years, he dethroned slam champion only twice? Poor, really poor...

What is total amount of times each of the big three has faced a defending champion, win or lose?

While Djokovic was busy dethroning, Fedal were busy winning majors and defending them.

Yea like Hitman said, do you know how many total times they faced a defending champion? I would be interested to know as well.

@tennisaddict
Your math is bad, Novak has "only" 4 slams less than Fed. Fed is 6 years (24 slams) older. So Fed had 20 more chances to dethrone someone than Novak, yet he did that only twice, while Novak did that 7 times... Another prof that Novak is good when its hard, and Federer is greatest when it's easy...

It can be interesting, but if Fed hadn't too many oportunities to beat defending champion, it can say a lot about defending champion's or Federer's quality, when they couldn't meet more often...

This is true although I'm thinking Djokovic and Federer at least played a defending champion more often because they were consistent overall in Slams. When it comes to RG, this stat probably won't be kind to Federer or Djokovic at that tournament. They have like 6 losses each to Nadal there.

You really need to compile these stats into a single thread. Didn’t you have a “my stats” thread or something of that sort a while back?

If someone is GOAT or ATG or whatever should be about his own results and not about who was the other finalist. Because that isn’t within his powers.

Everything else apart from total numbers is subjective anyway. And if you think numbers don’t tell the whole story, then why bring other numbers to proof your Point?

Yes, but this stats are about beating actual champion, not losing to him ;)

vs Nadal UO 2011 (def champ)
vs Nadal RG 2015 (def champ)
vs Federer AO 2016 (next champ)

2011 USO: Nadal was the previous champ and Djoker was his victim. Djoker gets credit for losing the previous final?

2015 RG; Djoker beat Nadal, but choked vs. Stan.

2016 AO: In 2017, Djoker losing to the 117th ranked player in the world in the second round paved the way for Fed becoming the next champ.

Lew, we're really straining here to find things to give Djoker credit for. Had he just taken care of business vs. Stan and Murray in slam finals, you wouldn't have to work so hard.
